It was one of those rare games where everything went according to plan.
Grundy, experienced and loaded with seniors, dominated for three quarters and easily defeated a young, but improved Twin Valley squad, 51-6, in the season opener for both clubs Friday Night at Nelson Memorial Field.
The Golden Wave played well early, scoring on every possession in the first half.
Tyler Berglowe ran for 87 yards and three touchdowns, all before halftime, as Grundy took a 38-0 lead at the break.
John Kelly threw three touchdown passes overall, two to Dillon O'Quinn, including a 12-yarder four plays into the game and a 21-yarder early in the second half.
Kelly added an 11-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Nick Travis early in the second period. The 6-foot-4 senior threw just six passes and completed four for 66 yards.
The execution was far from flawless, but Grundy, which scored both its second half touchdowns after Twin Valley turnovers, played awfully well for the first game of the regular season.

Grundy Volleyball to Feature Mix of Experience and Youth

by Lloyd Combs
Sports Reporter

In this, it's last season as a member of the Southwest District, the Grundy volleyball team hopes to make the season a memorable one.
The Lady Wave have a mix of experience and youth, and talent, enough to improve on last year's 2-and-18 overall record and enough to surprise a few people in the SWD, where Grundy was 0-and-12 last season.
Seniors Emily Rife, Morgan Reynolds, Katelyn Cantrell and Kaitlin Hess return, and they're joined by a junior varsity group that owns an SWD championship.
As soon as they get used to playing together as a unit this year's squad has a chance to turn a few heads on their way out the SWD door.

"Even though we lost a lot of seniors from last year, this year's team is a well-balanced group of girls with both experience and youth," Grundy coach Brittany Clevinger said. "There are four seniors who have played since eighth grade and they all got a lot of playing time on the varsity last season.
