       Coal has long been a part of our everyday lives here in Buchanan County, whether we completely understand its effects or not.
       And, while it hasn't always received the best reputation, one organization is working to show local students just how important coal is their their daily lives.
       CEDAR, or Coal Education Development And Resources of Virginia, Inc., recently received the green light from the Buchanan County School Board to offer a coal study unit program for local students.

Christmas Parade Planned Saturday

       Entries for the Buchanan County Chamber of Commerce Annual Christmas Parade are still being accepted.
       The parade will hit the streets of Grundy Saturday, marching to the tune of this year's theme, "A Berry Special Christmas."
        Scheduled to start at 5 p.m., the parade will begin at Poe Town Road and travel east on Route 460 to the Hoot Owl bridge.
