County
school officials have taken steps to alleviate cafeteria
deficits by approving a slight increase in meal prices and
de-centralizing school cafeteria management.
During
the Buchanan County School Board monthly meeting last
Thursday, school board members took action in order to curb
the problems of a county cafeteria deficit which has reached
over $400,000.
After
much discussion, the school board voted 5-2 to increase
school meal prices a total of five cents across the board
with board members Clarence Brown (Knox District), Craig
Stiltner (Rock Lick District), Paul Hayes (Prater District),
Larry Looney (South Grundy District), and Wayne Deskins
(Garden District) voting to approve. Board members Don
Newberry (North Grundy District) and Willie Sullivan
(Hurricane District) voted against the increase. The motion
was made by Brown and seconded by Deskins.
Buchanan
County School Food Supervisor Hubert Elswick came before the
board last week to discuss the current problems in the lack
of payment to student meal accounts and the debt of
$423,805, which was reported to school board clerk Joyce
Presley.
