Barbara Bates Smith will delight community residents Thursday as she revives the character of a spirited mountain woman in her latest rendition of Hometown Author Lee Smith's "I Remane Forever, Ivy Rowe."

'Ivy Rowe' 20th Anniversary Tour Makes Stop in Buchanan County

Twenty years after first taking to the stage as "Ivy Rowe," Barbara Bates Smith will resume the role of the infamous heroine for county audiences.
      On Thursday, March 18, the Community Arts Council will proudly welcome back the renowned actress, who adapted Buchanan County native Lee Smith's 1988 novel Fair and Tender Ladies for theater in 1990.
      The novelist's unmistakable ability was matched in Barbara Smith's willingness to hone her craft, taking lessons from the southern men and women she'd meet in her early years of performing.

Parents File Suit After Child Burned by Coffee at Local Restaurant

The parents of a four-year-old boy have sued the owner of a local McDonald's restaurant after the juvenile was scalded by hot coffee.
       Shaun and Alicia Fuller filed the claim in Buchanan County Circuit Court on behalf of their son, who, according to the suit, was burned by coffee at the Vansant restaurant on Halloween last year.

Town Transfers $50K to Breaks Airport Authority

       The Breaks Regional Airport Authority has received a transfer of funds in the amount of $50,000 from the Breaks Regional Airport account by order of the Grundy Town Council.
       During the town council meeting last Tuesday night, town councilman Chris Mitchell made a motion to transfer $50,000 from the Breaks Airport account to the new authority.
