                      Good Citizens
The Levisa River Daughters of the American Revolution presented their Good Citizen Scholarship awards to two local teens recently, including Alison Rife (Twin Valley High School) and Dakota Bostic (Council High School), who are pictured seated from left. Finalized Budget Provides Some Relief for Schools

State Workers to See No Raises in Coming Year

Buchanan County Schools have reason to breathe easier -- slightly -- in the aftermath of state budget wrangling that produced a two-year $82 billion budget.
      The final budget makes a $253 million cut in K-12 education over the next two years, but rejects $400 million in additional cuts originally desired by the House of Delegates.

Judge Says Principals Can Amend, Re-File Suit

A federal judge will allow three school administrators to re-file a claim he tossed out in February.
      Riverview Elementary/Middle School Principal Melanie Hibbitts and assistant principals Lynn Lowe and Ruby Coffey asked the court last week to alter judgment in the case and reverse its decision to dismiss the suit, which alleged rights violations linked to their employment status.
