Eula Lee Dingess
(Patterson)

     Eula Lee Ray Dingess, 72, of the Patterson section of Oakwood, died Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands following an extended illness.
     Born in Russell County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Gladys Ray. She was a homemaker, a resident of Buchanan County most of her life and was of the Church of Jesus faith.
     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Ray, Helen Ray and Ethel Deel.
     She is survived by her husband, William Arthur Dingess; two daughters, Mary Ann and husband, Larry Chafins of Oakwood and Kathy Dingess of Pounding Mill; one brother, James Ray, of Rosedale; two granddaughters, Billie Joe and husband, Shaun Mullins of Dandridge, TN and Brandie Chafins and fiance, Ricky Swiney, of Grand Junction, CO; one grandson, Jeremy Dingess and companion, Matthew Joyce, of Cedar Bluff; several nieces and nephews.
     Funeral services were conducted Saturday, August 28 at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Charles Hubbard and Freddie Rife officiating. Burial followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill.
      Active pallbearers were Shaun Mullins, Bill Maggard, Jimmy Vandyke, Scotty Vandyke, Jody Vandyke and Chad Vandyke
     Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Marrs, Larry Chafins and Junior Vandyke.
      Grundy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


William T. Blankenship
(Hurley)

      William Taylor (J.B.) Blankenship, 88, of Hurley, died Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Grundy.
      Born March 7, 1922 in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Rev. Taylor and Nancy Stacy Blankenship. He was a logger and a member of Bee Branch Old Regular Baptist Church.
       In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Scotty and Fayette Blankenship; five brothers, Virgus, Edgar, Homer, Hobert and Richard Blankenship; two sisters, Susie Payne and Lula Mullins; and son-in-law, Tommy McCoy.
       He is survived by his wife, Easter Hilda Bandy Blankenship; three sons, Charles Taylor Blankenship and wife, Geralene and Larry Richard Blankenship, all of Hurley and Douglas Mack Arthur Blankenship and wife, Bernice, of Forks, WA; two daughters, Shelia Lynn McCoy of Hurley and Janice Lula Smith and husband, Eugene, of Collinsville; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Blankenship of Wolford; and one sister, Georgia Mounts, of Grundy.
       Funeral services will be held today (Thursday), September 2 at 1 p.m. at North Springs Old Regular Baptist Church at Wolford with Elders Phillip Estep, Gary Estep, Dave Gibson, Josh Justus Jr., James Stacy and Bill McCoy officiating. Burial followed in the Harlan Blankenship Cemetery at Wolford.
      A service will be held Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
       Pallbearers will be nephews.
      Honorary pallbearers will be members of Bee Branch Old Regular Baptist Church, Dr. Clint Sutherland and staff of Heritage Hall
       Virginia Funeral Home of Grundy is in charge of arrangements.

Vertie Oma Coleman
(Haysi, VA)

     Vertie Oma Coleman, 87, of Haysi, died Friday, August 27, 2010 at her home.
      Born January 27, 1923 in Haysi, she was the daughter of the late Perry and Catherine Yates. She was a homemaker and member of Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church.
      In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fines Coleman; a daughter, Darlene; a son, Randy Coleman; three brothers, Elmer, James and Marcus Yates; three sisters, Dolly Dale, Nicey Rife and Bessie Jerlene; one son-in-law, Walter Conaway; and three grandchildren, Kimberly Coleman, Paula Deel and Sandra Deel.
      She is survived by three daughters, Antha (Junior) Breeding of Big Rock, Linda (Clinton) Swiney and Euva Conaway, both of Haysi; two sons, Earl (Betty) Coleman and Darrell (Katherine) Coleman, both of Haysi; two sisters, Dorthenia O’quinn of Haysi and June Mutter of Belfast; a foster brother, Clyde Boyd, of Clintwood; 12 grandchildren, one step-grandson, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
      Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, August 31 at Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders Andy Deel, Earl Dean Yates, Roger Coleman and Mark Justice officiating. Burial followed in the Parrot Deel Cemetery at Haysi.
      Pallbearers were family and friends.

Brenda Gail McCoy
(Pounding Mill, VA)

      Brenda Gail Blankenship McCoy, 60, of Pounding Mill, died Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, following a brief illness.
      Born April 17, 1950 in Paynesville, WV, she was a daughter of Fanny Allen Blankenship, of Paynesville and the late Cornelius Blankenship. She was a native of Buchanan County, relocating to Pounding Mill in 1977. She worked as a caregiver for the elderly in several families for 18 years. She was of the Christian faith and attended Baptist Valley Assembly of God.
       In addition to her mother, she was survived by her husband of 42 years, Freddie Lee McCoy; three sons, Edward Lee McCoy and wife, Patty, Jeffery McCoy and wife, Rhonda, and James Keith McCoy, all of Pounding Mill; four sisters, Kathy Blankenship and husband, Edgar, and Bonnie Blankenship and husband, Paul, all of Hurley, Teresa Lester and husband, Glen, of Grundy and Vickie Lester and husband, Carson, of Rural Retreat; one brother, Eddie Blankenship, of Paynesville; three grandsons, Brian Charles McCoy and Dustin Ray McCoy of Hillsville and Jeffery Tyler McCoy of Jewell Ridge; two step-granddaughters, Amanda Strouth and husband, Barry, and Angela Beth Vance and husband, Derrick, all of Richlands; two step-great-granddaughters, Holly Kaitlin Vance and Madison Hope Strouth; special friend of 32 years, Mildred Cornwell, of Cedar Bluff; several nieces and nephews.
       Funeral services were conducted Sunday, August 29 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Doug Blankenship and Pastor Seth White officiating. Entombment followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Claypool Hill.
      Pallbearers were Billy McCoy, Duane McCoy, Daniel McCoy, Rodney Hardin, Heath Hardin and Scott McCoy.
      Honorary pallbearers were the staff of Clinch Valley Medical Center's Intensive Care Unit and Dr. Toeya Piriz.
       Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Tazewell was in charge of arrangements.


Jack H. Rasnake
(Doran, VA)

       Jack H. Rasnake, 90, of Doran, died Wednesday, August 25, 2010 in a Richlands hospital.
       Born July 27, 1920 in Russell County, he was the son of the late Dock Bond and Lula Davis Rasnake. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II and was a retired coal miner. He was an avid gardener and sports enthusiast, volunteering with Little League Baseball. He attended Doran Baptist Church.
       In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jess Rasnake and Kemper Rasnake, and three sisters, Della Carr, Mada Artrip and Ruby Rasnake.
       He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nadine Rasnake; three daughters, Brenda Boyd and husband, Roger, of Jacksonville, AL, Linda Hooker and husband, Bernard, of Cedar Bluff and Sandra Salyers and husband, Steven, of Raven; one brother, Dock Rasnake, and wife, Iris, of Richlands; eight grandchildren including special granddaughter, Angel Hackworth; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
       Funeral services were conducted Friday, August 27 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with the Revs. Ralph Horton, Travis Hackworth and Roger Boyd officiating. Entombement followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Claypool Hill. Military graveside rites were conducted by Casey-Shortt VFW Post 9640.
       Pallbearers were grandsons.

Vivian Kiser
(Louisville, KY)

       Vivian Kiser, 80, of Louisville, KY, died August 19, 2010 in Louisville.
       She was a resident of Golden Living Camelot Nursing Home, Louisville. and was a member of Highland Baptist Church. She traveled extensively for KY Central Life Insurance Co. and was retired from Security Management Co.
       She was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Crissie Kiser, who had resided in Grundy and one sister, Lillian Kiser, who had resided in Atlanta, GA.
       She is survived by numerous cousins and friends.
       A graveside service was held Saturday, August 28 at the N.B. Colley Cemetery, Breaks, with burial following.
       Newcomer Funeral Home, of Louisville, was in charge of arrangements.


James A. Mowles
(Okeechobee, FL)

       James A. "Jim" Mowles, 95, of Orange Park, FL, died Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Life Care Center in Orange Park, FL.
       A former resident of Buchanan County, he worked at the offices of Harman Mining Corp. for 44 years. Upon retirement, he and his wife became residents of both Saltville and Okeechobee, FL.
       He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Robertson Mowles; his father, James A. Mowles, Sr.; his mother, Pearl Tucker Mowles; and his brother, Robert Mowles.
       He is survived by his son, Dick, and daughter-in-law, Carol Mowles, of Jacksonville; daughter, Sunny, and son-in-law, Marvin Shaw of Calhoun, GA; sister, Mary Diller of Cleveland, OH; grandchildren, Chris Mowles of Jacksonville, Richard and wife, Brendi Mowles of Jacksonville, Stephanie Shaw of Chattanooga, TN; and a step-grandchild, Aleshia Rutledge of Resaca, GA; one great-grandchild, Kaylee Mowles; three step-great-grandchildren, several nieces and a nephew.
       Visitation will be held today (Thursday), September 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon. Services will be held Friday, September 3 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum in Forest Hills Memory Gardens, Abingdon, with Shea Shrader, pastor of Harman Memorial Baptist Church, officiating.
      In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Harman Memorial Baptist Church, P.O. Box 320, Maxie, VA 24628.
