Matney Whitt Matney, 83, of Hurley,
died Friday, August 11, 2006 in
Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy. Born in Buchanan
County, she was the daughter of the late Matthew Matney and
Minvera Mullins Matney. She was a member of
Little Dove Old Regular Baptist Church and was a
homemaker.
In addition
to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first
husband, Acie Whitt; her second husband, Dewey Matney; three
sisters; three brothers; and three grandchildren.
She is
survived by five daughters, Lois Buchanan and husband Robert
of Grundy, Barbara Sullivan and husband Eddie, Diana
Blankenship and husband Danny, Darlene Matney and husband
Will, all of Hurley and Tammy Looney and husband Dean, of
Grundy; two sons, Greg Whitt and wife, Maggie, of Hurley and
Harold Whitt and wife, Mary, of Rosedale; three sisters,
Leona Prater Justus of Hurley, Nina Layne of Georgia and
Juna Simpson of Estoile, KY; one brother, Hassell Belcher,
of Gilbert, WV; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services were
held Tuesday, August 15 at Little Dove Old Regular Baptist
Church on Guesses Fork at Hurley with Elders Josh Justus,
Jr., David Lester, Paul Boggs, Danny Hurley, Hershel Hurley
and John R. Justus officiating. Burial followed in the Whitt
Cemetery on Laural Road, Hurley.
Active
pallbearers were family and friends.

pallbearers were Dr Clint Sutherland, Dr J.G. Patel, Donald
Ashby, Dr Bruce Freedman and staff and Buchanan General
Hospital ICU Nursing Staff.

Kathleen Mitchell Coleman,
76, of the Bear Branch section of Rt 2, Vansant, died Friday
at Buchanan
General Hospital, Grundy,
following an extended illness.
Born in Buchanan County, she
was a daughter of the late Starlin and Virgie Mae Deel
Mitchell. She
was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, a member of
Bethlehem Old Regular Baptist Church #1 of the Indian Bottom
Association and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Carrie Boyd,
and three brothers, Hassell, Carmel and Floyd Mitchell.
She is survived by her husband, Henry D. Coleman; two
daughters, Linda Coleman Rose of Harman and Rita Coleman
Anderson of Cedar Bluff; two sisters, Nadiene Churchill of
Johnson City, TN and
Margie Thacker of Palatka, FL; two brothers, Johnny
Mitchell of Warren, MI and Jim Mitchell of Lorton; four
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren
Services were held Tuesday, August 15 at the Little
David Old Regular Baptist Church at Bear Branch near Russell
Prater, with
Elders Billie Campbell, William McClanahan, James McClanahan
and Jim Owens officiating. Burial followed in Clinch Valley
Memorial Cemetery, Richlands.

Hubbard Horn, 77, of Pilgrim's
Knob, died Sunday, August 13, 2006 at his home.
Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late
Curtis and Gracie Kelly Horn. He was a United States Army
veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a retired coal miner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death
by his wife, Dorothy Lark Horn; two brothers, Lucian Horn
and Edward "Ray" Horn; and one sister, Beulah
Horn.
He is survived by two daughters, Robin Horn of
Oakwood and Sabrina Horn of Vansant; two brothers, Curtis
Horn, Jr. of Vansant and Gallie Cole of Pilgrim's Knob; one
sister, Myrtle Honaker of Dismal; two step-sons, Robert E.
Coleman of Pilgrim's Knob and William W. Coleman of North
Carolina; four step-grandchildren and two
step-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, August 16 at
the Kelly Cemetery, Compton Mountain.
Pallbearers were family and friends.

in Roanoke
Memorial Hospital, Roanoke.
Born in
McDowell County, he was the son of the late William (Bill)
McIntosh and Mary Christian McIntosh. He was of the Holiness
faith and was disabled.
In addition
to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister,
Gwendolyn Blankenship;
one brother, Barney McIntosh; and one special family
member, Clifton McIntosh.
He is
survived by his wife, Sharlene Oquinn McIntosh; one son,
Michael Paul McIntosh, of the home; four sisters, Alline

Phyliss Beahan of Cleveland, OH and Nancy "Dolly"
Warf of Elkton, MD; two brothers, Bill McIntosh of South
Carolina and Ronnie McIntosh of Elkton; special family

17 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of the Lord Jesus on Three
Forks, Jolo, WV, with the Revs. Michael Lanham, Bob Elkins
and Pete Woods officiating. Burial will follow in the
Christian-Kennedy Cemetery on Rock Ridge at Jolo.

Perry C. Clevinger,
57, of Punta Gorda, FL, died Tuesday, August 8, 2006.
Born in Grundy, he was the son of Joyce (Perry)
Clevinger, of Grundy and the late Dewey Clevinger. He
served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded
the Purple Heart. He was employed by the U.S. Post Office,
was a member of American Legion Post #110 and was a member
of the Grundy High School graduating class of 1967.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his
wife, Joanie (Kendall) Clevinger; one daughter, Tina
Denise Clevinger of Port Charlotte, FL; one step-daughter,
Janet (Jeff) McCoy of Ft. Levinworth, KS; one step-son,
John (Danielle) Kendall of Orlando, FL; one brother, Jerry
Clevinger, of Tuscon, AZ; two sisters, Carol (Gary)
Coleman and Rebecca "Becky" Clevinger, both of
Grundy; and seven grandchildren.
A gathering was held Friday, August 11 with a
celebration of his life at the Punta Gorda Chapel of Larry
Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 26
at the Grundy Church of Christ at 4 p.m.

Rev.
Jessie Miller, 74,
of the Gardener section of Swords Creek, died Sunday,
August 6, 2006 at his home.
Born
in Russell County, he was a son of the late Roscoe and
Leona Crouse Miller. A lifelong resident of the area, he
was of the Pentecostal faith and was a member of the
Swords Creek Block Church. He was a devoted Christian and
had spent 40 years in the ministry, during which time he
served as pastor at various churches throughout the
community. He was a retired coal miner having been
employed by Clinchfield Coal Company until his retirement
in 1974 and was a member of the United Mine Workers of
America Local 1426.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
his parents, Roscoe and Leona Crouse Miller; one brother,
Lacy Miller; and one infant brother.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Elaine Honaker
Miller; five children, Diann Munsey and
husband, Tim, of Claypool Hill, Pam Stinson and
husband, Glen, of Honaker, Jerl Miller and wife, Connie,
of Patterson, Sandy Whitt and husband, Doug, of Swords
Creek and Barry Miller and wife, Ginger, of Honaker; one
sister, Roberta Hylton of Canton, Ohio; twin brother,
Justin Miller of Honaker; brothers, Houston Miller,
Preston Miller, Harold Lee Miller and Stevie Miller all of
Swords Creek; eight grandsons, one granddaughter, two
great-grandsons, several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Wednesday in Honaker with the
Revs. Carl Robinson, James Tiller and Dennis White
officiating. Interment followed in Greenhills Memory
Gardens at Claypool Hill.

of the Finney section of Honaker, died Saturday, August
12, 2006 at his home.
Born in Russell County, he
was a son of the late Charles Brady and Olivia Charm
Crabtree Combs. A lifelong resident of the area, he was
formerly employed at the American Electric Power plant at
Carbo prior to becoming disabled.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by one son, Gary Daniel Combs, Jr.
In addition to his wife, Retha Barton Combs, he is
survived by three sons, Charles David Combs, Terry Dean
Combs and Mark Allen Combs, all of Finney; one daughter,
Retha Gail Musick of Council; seven brothers, Harley
Combs, Joseph Combs, Jim Combs, Larry Combs, Wayne Combs,
Robert Combs and Carter Combs; one sister, Billie Dove
Barton; 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several
nieces and nephews.

and Fairley Spencer officiating. Interment followed in the
Combs Family Cemetery in Finney.

Jane Tiller, 54, of Honaker, died Tuesday, August 8, 2006
in a Lebanon hospital.
Born
in Toledo, OH, she was a daughter of the late G.O
"Johnny" and Betty Jo Stoots Tiller. She had
spent most of her life in the area and was a member of
Honaker First Baptist Church. A 1971 graduate of Honaker
High School, she was a homemaker and a substitute teacher.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in
death by her maternal grandparents, Tony and Hazel Stoots
and Holliday and "Mamaw" Tiller.
She is survived by one son, Gerald Lee Joyce, of
New Orleans, LA; one daughter, Karen Helmandollar and
husband, Kevin, of Cedar Bluff; twin brother, Mike Tiller
and wife, Kathy, of Bristol, TN; one nephew, one niece and
grandchildren.
Services were held Friday in Honaker with the Rev.
Jerry Welch officiating. Interment followed in Russell
Memorial Cemetery in Lebanon.

Pauline Ida Jones Reedy, 83, of
Tazewell, formerly of Jewell Ridge, died August 10, 2006
at a Smyth County hospital.
Born in Russell County, she was the daughter of the
late James Walter and Georgia May Harper Jones, both
Russell County natives. She had lived most of her life in
Russell, Buchanan and Tazewell counties. She was a
homemaker and attended Riverview Presbyterian Church in
North Holston.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in
death by her husband, Claude Harman “Squeak” Reedy, in
1985, 10 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by one son, Claude, and wife,
Courtney Harper Reedy of Martinsville; one sister, Mrs.
Elijah (Mary Lee) Gilbert of Hartsville, SC; one brother,
Lawrence Jones, of Rock Hill, SC; two grandchildren,
several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Sunday, August 13, at
Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Richlands, with the
Rev. Bob Thornton officiating. Burial was private.

resident of Buchanan and Dickenson counties, was of the
Protestant faith and was disabled.

Hagy, both of Harman; and five brothers, William Compton
and Earl Compton, both of Clinchco, Larry Compton of
