Months
of
planning
and
the
hard
work
that
followed
in
blistering
heat
paid
off
Friday
as
the
scaffolding
was
lowered
and
the
completion
of
the
Grundy
Community
Mural
project
was
celebrated
The
efforts
of
37
art
students
and
members
of
the
community
who
worked
on
the
project
were
recognized
by
Art
Instructor
Ellen
Elmes
and
mural
project
sponsors
who
gathered
in
the
Vansant
Food
City
parking
lot
to
view
the
mural
in
its
entirety
and
to
hear
some
of
the
stories
associated
with
the
painting
of
the
mural
and
its
many
memories
of
Grundy.
As
the
heart
of
downtown
Grundy
is
being
demolished
and
many
of
its
buildings
are
now
fading
into
rubble,
the
mural
serves
as
a
reminder
of
how
things
used
to
be.
“I
thank
you
from
my
heart
for
the
hard
work,
dedication
and
creative
craftsmanship
that
you
have
given
to
making
our
community
mural
a
grand
success,”
Elmes
told
students
involved
in
the
project.
“I
am
so
proud
of
each
and
every
one
of
you.”
She
told
the
100
or
so
members
of
the
community
gathered
to
celebrate
the
completion
of
the
mural
with
the
students
and
their
families
that
she
had
watched
each
of
those
involved
in
the
mural
develop
from
their
own
level
of
experience
--
or
inexperience
--
in
terms
of
painting
skills
through
their
on-the-job
training
at
the
25-foot
above
ground
workplace.
“Over
the
course
of
the
last
six
weeks,
I
have
seen
each
of
you
grow
into
a
responsible
and
confident
young
artist,
realizing
the
power
of
your
paintbrush
and
the
potential
you
hold
in
your
own
hands
for
future
success
as
an
artist,”
Elmes
said.
“You
have
proven
yourselves
on
a
grand
scale,
and
your
community
can
forever
after
enjoy
this
result
of
your
commitment
to
doing
a
job
well.”
