Hale Defends Gladiator Fighting Championship Belt in First Round KO

Buchanan County native and long-time fighting enthusiasts Stoney Hale defended his Gladiator Fighting Championship belt this past Saturday night with an impressive six-second, first-round knockout.
Hale, who scored a big win two weeks ago in his Mixed Martial Arts debut, scored the early KO against number one contender, Ricky Conley. Saturday night, July 22 in Jenkins, KY.
Hale was presented the Ground ’n Pound Fighter of the Night Award following his bout.
As soon as the bell rang to start the round, both fighters met at the center of the cage and Hale fainted a left and then came with a hard straight right hand, knocking Conley to his back dazed.
Hale immediately went for the finish, landing three brutal shots to Conley’s head while he was on his back, forcing the referee, Bobby Strouth, to stop the bout just six second into the fight.
“I’ve worked this punch for the last seven years since Elmer Jackson taught me,” an excited Hale said. “Elmer told me if someone fears your striking power, to take advantage of it. Fake a hard left and then throw everything into the right.”
Hale doesn’t have a definite fight lined up next, but is getting more offers from Atlanta, GA, with Undisputed Productions, and with AFC in Miami, FL.

47 Compete in Willowbrook Country Club's 'Chic Grundman' Memorial Ladies Invitational

Some 47 ladies representing four different states gathered at Willowbrook Country Club on Tuesday, July 18, 2006 to honor and remember the late Chic Grundman.
Special guests of honor during the event were Chic’s sister, Mary Manning; Chic’s twin daughters, Pam Cottingin and Pat Petty, who traveled from her home in Ohio to be at WCC on this special day. Sue Klingel, a special friend of the family, also accompanied the family.
The event turned out to be a day of remembrances of not only the late Chic, but of WCC members who had gone on before.
A memory garden was dedicated on Hole #1 in memory of Ruby Blevins, Dot Dellinger and Grundman.
A collage of photographs, dating back to when the Ladies’ Association was formed in 1971, was also on display.
Although the temperature was a scorching 94 degrees, everyone had a wonderful day as former members and guests enjoyed the fellowship and competition.
The team of Rosa Epling and Tara Roswall captured first place honors in the championship flight, posting a score of 67 and beating out the runner-up team of Judy Honaker and Jean Vencill by one stroke. Honaker and Vencill finished the 18-hole event with a round of 68.
In the first flight, the twosome of Lois McHugh and Vicky Salyer won the title with a one-stroke swing. McHugh and Salyer posted a round of 73, while the twosome of Judy Witt and Glenna Messer took home runner-up honors after posting a round of 74.

13-Time Champs Grundy Wrestling Club Protects Practice Facility With SportsAide

The wrestling mats, locker rooms, weight room and saunas of the Grundy  Wrestling Club are now protected by the most advanced antimicrobial available – the colorless, odorless SportsAide™ from SportCoatings.
Winners of 13 Virginia AA State Championships in the past 18 years, the Grundy Wrestling Club joins Virginia Tech University in setting new standards of proactive protection for wrestling facilities nationwide by treating its facilities with SportsAide.  Virginia Tech became the first Division 1 University to apply SportsAide to protect its wrestling and football facilities in May of this year.
The antimicrobial powering SportsAide creates a long-lasting antimicrobial layer effective against a very broad spectrum of all known bacteria, mold, fungi and algae.
“There are lots of infamous bacteria and fungi in the world of wrestling from Ring Worm and Impetigo, to the most menacing staph infection - MRSA,” said Brant Robertson spokesperson for the Grundy Wrestling Club. “We wanted to provide the best possible environment for our wrestlers.”
While Grundy’s championship wrestling program has been fortunate not to experience a bacterial problem at its training facilities, it wanted to take additional steps to ensure the safety and welfare of its wrestlers.
