Drug

Charged
in
Big
County
Roundup |
|
|
Eighteen
defendants
were
picked
up
on
47
separate
charges
in
the
past
week
as
local
law
enforcement
officials
conducted
a
drug
sweep
in
the
county.
Sheriff
Ray
Foster
said
last
Thursday
that
the
joint
effort
between
the
Buchanan
County
Sheriff's
Department,
the
Virginia
State
Police
and
the
29th
Judicial
Circuit
Drug
Task
Force
had
been
a
success.
"We
got
what
we
went
after,"
Foster
said.
Unlike
past
drug
raids
conducted
recently
which
were
carried
off
in
the
wee
early
hours
of
the
morning,
last
week's
round-up
was
conducted
in
broad
daylight
as
defendants
named
in
sealed
indictments
were
picked
up
and
brought
to
the
local
jail
for
processing
before
being
arraigned
in
circuit
court,
or
transferred
to
the
Southwest
Virginia
Regional
Jail
Authority
to
await
bond
hearings.
"We wanted to do something a little different and
by
doing
it
in
the
daylight
hours,
the
community
can
see
and
knows
we're
at
work,"
Foster
said.
