Arnold
Junior Lee, 67, of Big Rock, died Friday, June 9, 2006 at his
home following an extended illness.
Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late
Arvil and Lillian Williams Lee. He was a life-long resident of
Buchanan County and a member of Mountain View Church of
Christ. He was a retired salesman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by four brothers, Robert, Stewart, Elster and Hadley
Lee; one niece and one nephew.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Rose Hall Lee;
one daughter, Shelia and husband, Kevin Ward of Big Rock; one
son, David and wife, Karen Lee, of Raven; four sisters, Ruby
Lee of Big Rock, Gayle Taylor of Sterling Heights, MI, Mary
Rose Perkins of Fenton, MI and Shirley Poland of Warren, MI;
three brothers, Dewey Lee of Big Rock, Willie Lee of Warren
and Shad Lee of Melbourne, FL; one granddaughter and three
grandsons.
Services were held Monday, June 12 at Mountain
View Church of Christ in Mouthcard, KY, with Minister Frank
Crum officiating. Entombment followed in Mountain Rest
Mausoleum - Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock.
Active pallbearers were Sewell Mackins, Ricky
Mackins, Jimmy Abriel, Jimmy Abriel, Jr., Bob Peloski, Dickie
Belcher, Brian Lee and Tommy Hall.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Clint Sutherland and
men of Mountain View Church of Christ.
Grundy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Randy
Wilson McClanahan, 52, of the Home Creek section of Buchanan
County, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006 in Clinch Valley
Medical Center, Richlands, following an extended illness.
Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the
late Elster and Mae White McClanahan. He was a life-long
resident of Buchanan County and was of the Baptist faith. He
was a graduate of Grundy High School’s Class of 1971 and
was a retired employee of United Coal Company with 20 years
of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by two brothers, Douglas McClanahan, July 29, 2004 and
Tommy Lee McClanahan in 1954; paternal grandparents, Wiley
and Cora McClanahan; and maternal grandparents, Alex and
Grace White.
He is survived by one son, Franklin Wilson and
wife, Tina McClanahan, of Grundy; three sisters, Jennifer
and husband, Charlie Hackney of Home Creek, Wanda and
husband, Randall Clevinger of Harman and Sharon Combs of
Florida; three brothers, Dallas and wife, Sherry McClanahan
of Home Creek, Elster, Jr. and wife, Bernice McClanahan of
Haysi and Ronald and wife, Charlotte McClanahan, of
Abingdon; one granddaughter, several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Saturday, June 17 at Grundy
Funeral Home Chapel with Elders Howard Daniels, Mack Varney
and Jackie Yates officiating. Entombment followed in
Mountain Rest Mausoleum - Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big
Rock.
Active pallbearers were family and friends.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form
of contributions to Heavenly Helpers Relay for Life -
American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1016, Grundy, VA 24614.

Neal Smith

Patrick
"Bub" Neal Smith, 33, of Rowe, died Sunday, June
18, 2006 at the University of Virginia Hospital in
Charlottesville, following an extended illness.
Born in Tazewell County, he was a son of Jerry
Lee and Jackie Lee Rasnick Smith of Rowe. He had been a
resident of Buchanan County most of his life and was a
graduate of Grundy Senior High School’s class of 1991. He
was a truck driver for Claude V. Keen Trucking and was a
member of Rowe Pentecostal Holiness Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by
his son, Cody Ryan, of Rowe; one brother, Jonathan Emmitt
Smith of Rowe; a special aunt and uncle, Jimmy and wife,
Reba Carter; several aunts and uncles.
Services were held Wednesday, June 21 at Rowe
Pentecostal Holiness Church with Ministers Ancil Childress
and Shea Shrader and Evgs. Michael Trent and Mike Rife
officiating. Entombment followed in Greenhills Memory
Gardens, Claypool Hill.
Active pallbearers were Jon Smith, Little John
Keen, Mike Lester, Smiley Keen, Jimmy Carter, Roger Perkins,
Chris Charles, Nathan Smith, Byron Smith, Delmar Smith and
Harold Smith.
Honorary pallbearers were Shea Shrader, Pete
Stiltner, Dave Endicott, Claude V. Keen, Freddy Keen, Judy
Street, Janie Flemming, Mike Fletcher and Eddie Fletcher.

Arlet
Leon Looney, 83, of Maxie, died Sunday, June 18, 2006 at
Pikeville Methodist Hospital, Pikeville, KY, following an
extended illness.
Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the
late Burl H. and Hattie Looney Looney. He was a lifelong
resident of Buchanan County and a member of the Breaks
Church of Christ. He served in the United States Army during
World War II and was a carpenter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by his wife, Bessie Deel Looney, in 2002; one
daughter, Alice McClanahan; three sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by one son, Leon and wife, Evelyn
Looney of Maxie; three sisters, Deloris Colley of Abingdon,
Dessie Amburn of Burkesville and Mildred Blaylock of
Blountville, TN; three grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, June 21 at Grundy
Funeral Home Chapel with Evg. Clint Stewart officiating with
burial following in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock.
Active pallbearers were family and friends.
Grundy Funeral Home was in charge of

Roscoe Ratliff, 70, of South Boston, VA, died Wednesday, May
31, 2006.
He was the son of the late Florence Ramey
Ratliff, who was born and previously resided at Conaway, and
John C. Ratliff.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by five brothers, Henry Ratliff, Cleve Ratliff, Glen
Ratliff, Joe Ratliff and Cecil Ratliff.
He is survived by five sisters, Eunice Hall,
Linda Ratliff, Gladys Spangler, Carrie Cifers and Marie
Flippo; and one brother, Bob Ratliff, Sr.
Graveside services were held Saturday, June 3
with the Rev. Jason Bryant officiating. Interment followed
in Grace Baptist Church Cemetery.

Emma
Hale Fisher, 93, of Deltona, FL, died Wednesday, June 14,
2006 at Deltona Health Center.
Born in Council, she was the daughter of the
late Jim and Nannie (McFarlane) Hale. She later moved and
resided in Michigan where she lived until retiring in
Deltona. She was a member of Deltona Christian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded
in death by her husband, Glenn K. Fisher; six brothers,
Zed, Drayton, Clarence, Stuart, Carl and Ervin Hale; and
two sisters, Nora Hale Spencer and Clara Hale Call.
She is survived by one son, Donald Fisher of
Deltona and one sister, Helen Hale Compton of Council;
several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Sunday, June 18, at Owens
Funeral Service Chapel with the Revs. J.C. Steele and
Larry Burton officiating. Interment followed in Green
Hills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.
Pallbearers were nephews.
Owens Funeral Service in Lebanon was in charge
of arrangements.

Daniel
"Danny" Matthew Lowe, 60, of Bristol, VA,
formerly of Richlands, died Monday, June 19, 2006 at his
home.
He was the son of the late Ernest
"Traveler" and Ina Hayes Lowe, both Tazewell
County natives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by his grandmother, Crinnie Steele, and sister, Anna
Ruth Lowe.
He is survived by one son, Jonathan Lowe and
wife, Lynn, of Cedar Bluff; one daughter, Amy Austin and
husband, Chris, of Norfolk; four sisters, Omega Mitchell
and husband, Ed, of Jewell Valley, Martha Lowe of
Annandale, Margaret Cochran and husband, Wayne, of
Bluefield, WV and Molly Swicegood and husband, Joey, of
Fairfax; two grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Wednesday, June 21 at
Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands with the Rev. Jimmy
Cole officiating. Interment followed in the Knob Cemetery
at Pea Patch.
Pallbearers were friends and relatives.

Ample
Holley Smith, 94, of Charlottesville, died Monday, June 19,
2006 in Charlottesville.
Born in Pike County, KY, she was the daughter of
the late Willie L. Salyer and Cora Sloan Salyer. She was a
homemaker and member of the Elkhorn City Church of Christ
and The Eastern Star.
She is survived by one son, Danny Holley of
Charlottesville; one brother, Goffery Salyer of Elkhorn
City, KY; two sisters, Tena Kendrick of Elkhorn City and
Betty Moore of Erwin, TN; two grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
Services will be held today (Thursday), June 22
at the Elkhorn City Church of Christ with Jim Ed Belcher
officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Valley Memorial
Park, Big Rock.
Bailey Funeral Home Chapel, Elkhorn City, is in
charge of arrangements.
