Hunter
Simpson’s Grand Slam helped Twin Valley gain a split of
a doubleheader with Phelps, Ky., Saturday at Twin Valley
High School.
The
Panthers edged the Hornets, 14-13 in nine innings in game
one, and dropped the second contest, 5-2 in five innings.
Twin
Valley sent the first game into extra innings with three
runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Both teams scored a run in the seventh.
The
Panthers won in the ninth when Bo Hartmann singled, stole
second and scored on a throwing error while attempting to
steal third.
Simpson’s
home run keyed a five-run second inning, when the Panthers
took a 7-0 lead. Phelps
scored 11 runs in the fourth and fifth innings, including
seven in the fifth, to take a 12-9 lead.
Hartmann
reached base six times, stole a school-record six bases
and scored a school-record six runs.
Simpson and Josh Smith each drove in four runs.
Phelps
jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second innings of the
nightcap. The
Panthers committed nine errors in the twinbill, including
five in game two.
