Wave Earns First SWD Baseball Win in Nearly a Decade by Stopping Marion
Cody Justus Tosses Four-Hitter

It was a mixed bag for Grundy last week, which was no-hit one day and got its biggest win in years the next.
Freshman Cody Justus tossed a four-hitter and Grundy earned its first Southwest District win in nearly a decade with a 4-2 victory over Marion Wednesday afternoon at Enoch's Branch.
Last Tuesday, two Richlands pitchers combined on a five-inning no-hitter as the Blue Tornado trounced the Golden Wave, 19-0, in SWD play on Grundy's home field.
Walks, errors, wild pitches and heads-up baserunning helped Grundy (4-14, 1-11) to Wednesday's win over the Scarlett Hurricane. The Wave had just one RBI in the game, on a 6-3 groundout off the bat of Justus to tie the score at 1-1 in the third. An error and a wild pitch put Michael Endicott in position to score that first Grundy run.
Justus and John Hagy both walked in the sixth and scored on wild pitches as Grundy took the lead for good, at 4-2.
"It wasn't the prettiest way to get runs in, but we'll take it," Grundy coach Scotty Bostic said. "For me, the win is a big monkey off our backs. It was starting to feel more like a gorilla.
"It takes a big load off our shoulders. It's a great way for our seniors to end their careers and it's a good way for our young guys to get their careers started. Most of all, it's a big sigh of relief to get it out of the way."

Workeneh, Pastorek Repeat as Grundy Kiwanis/TruPoint 5K Event Champs

Mountain Mission School’s D.J. Workeneh and Allison Pastorek of Jonesborough, TN, proved their long distance running talents still reign king and queen through the streets of downtown Grundy.
Workeneh turned in a fast time of 16:12 to win the overall male division in the 29th annual Grundy Kiwanis Club/TruPoint Bank 5K Run/Walk event, held Saturday, May 10 in Grundy.
The annual event was broken down into several different age divisions for both male and female runners.
Pastorek, who currently holds the course record (set last year with a time of 19:57)among female runners, turned in a quick time of 20:05 to earn the overall female title. Both Workeneh and Pastorek won their respective titles in last year’s event.
Some 138 runners and walkers took part in the early Saturday morning run, which saw sunny skies and warm temperatures for the 3.1 mile (approximate) course.
Craig Stiltner, of Grundy, turned in a repeat performance to capture the male Master’s Division (40 and over) crown with a time of 19:39. Stiltner has won the title the past three or four years.
Debby Stollings, of Mosheim, TN, took home the female Master’s Division trophy with a time of 25:13.
The top three male and female walkers were also recognized for their efforts for touring a quick course.
