It
was
a
mixed
bag
for
Grundy
last
week,
which
was
no-hit
one
day
and
got
its
biggest
win
in
years
the
next.
Freshman
Cody
Justus
tossed
a
four-hitter
and
Grundy
earned
its
first
Southwest
District
win
in
nearly
a
decade
with
a
4-2
victory
over
Marion
Wednesday
afternoon
at
Enoch's
Branch.
Last
Tuesday,
two
Richlands
pitchers
combined
on
a
five-inning
no-hitter
as
the
Blue
Tornado
trounced
the
Golden
Wave,
19-0,
in
SWD
play
on
Grundy's
home
field.
Walks,
errors,
wild
pitches
and
heads-up
baserunning
helped
Grundy
(4-14,
1-11)
to
Wednesday's
win
over
the
Scarlett
Hurricane.
The
Wave
had
just
one
RBI
in
the
game,
on
a
6-3
groundout
off
the
bat
of
Justus
to
tie
the
score
at
1-1
in
the
third.
An
error
and
a
wild
pitch
put
Michael
Endicott
in
position
to
score
that
first
Grundy
run.
Justus
and
John
Hagy
both
walked
in
the
sixth
and
scored
on
wild
pitches
as
Grundy
took
the
lead
for
good,
at
4-2.
"It
wasn't
the
prettiest
way
to
get
runs
in,
but
we'll
take
it,"
Grundy
coach
Scotty
Bostic
said.
"For
me,
the
win
is
a
big
monkey
off
our
backs.
It
was
starting
to
feel
more
like
a
gorilla.
"It
takes
a
big
load
off
our
shoulders.
It's
a
great
way
for
our
seniors
to
end
their
careers
and
it's
a
good
way
for
our
young
guys
to
get
their
careers
started.
Most
of
all,
it's
a
big
sigh
of
relief
to
get
it
out
of
the
way."
