Lois Annalee Marshall
(Maxie)

  Lois Annalee Blankenship Marshall, 67, of Maxie, died Thursday, May 11, 2006 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, following an extended illness.
  Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Byrd and Mary Blankenship. She was a life-long resident of Buchanan County and was of the Freewill Baptist faith. She was a homemaker.
  She is survived by her husband, Claude Marshall; one son, Donald Marshall of Maxie; one daughter, Pam and husband, Teddy Newsome, of Maxie; one sister, Patsy, and husband, Ronnie Owens, of Maxie; six brothers, Lloyd Blankenship, Bob Blankenship and Jerry Blankenship, all of Maxie, Bill Blankenship of Hurley, Larry Blankenship of Wytheville and Freeman Blankenship of North Carolina; one granddaughter, three grandsons and two great-grandchildren.
  Services were held Sunday, May 14 at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Ronnie Sliger and Eddie Wilson officiating. Burial followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill.
  Active pallbearers were Teddy Newsome, Brandon Newsome, Donnie Justice, Steve Riggsby, Roger Blankenship, Joe Blankenship, Todd Blankenship, Bucky Blankenship and J.L. Blankenship.
  Honorary pallbearers were Lloyd Blankenship, Bob Blankenship, Bill Blankenship, Jerry Blankenship, Ronnie Owens, Bobby Mar-shall, Gary Carter and Kertsie Clevinger.
  Grundy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Junior C.A. Ramey
(Hurley)

  Junior C.A. Ramey, 67, of Hurley, died Friday, May 12, 2006 in Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, TN, following an extended illness.
  Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Ellis and Nora Dales Ramey. He was a life-long resident of Buchanan County, a member of Bethany Bible Church and a graduate of Garden High School. He was a former baseball coach for Grundy Elementary School, served in the United States Navy and was a former employee of McCrae Trucking Company. He was former owner and operator of Delbarton Mining Company, Dark Hollow Mining Company, Bounty Mining Company and Ramey Trucking Company.
  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Channing Colley Ramey, and one brother, Leon Ramey.
  He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Lynn Cooper Ramey; six daughters, Dianna and husband, Pollard Shortt of Vansant, Chelsea Nicholle Ramey, Melanie Dawn Cooper, Rebecca Jill Cooper and Kristy Payne Cooper, all of Hurley, and Tonya and husband, Ronnie Ward, of Summersville, SC; six sons, Dwayne and wife, Jill Ramey and Cameron Ramey, all of Grundy, Chandler Andrew Ramey, Cheyenne Colley Cooper Ramey and Corey Shannon Colley Cooper, all of Hurley and Byron Derek Cooper of Richlands; one brother, Bobby Gene and wife, Phyllis Ramey, of Pulaski; 13 grandchildren.
  Services were held Tuesday, May 16 at Bethany Bible Church near Hurley with the Rev. Paul Rife and Evgs. Michael Trent and Sam Casebolt officiating. Burial followed in the Dotson Cemetery on Abner’s Fork near Hurley. Full military rites were held at the church by members of John Ratliff Post No. 164 of the American Legion.
  Active pallbearers were Brandon Dwayne Ramey, Britt Ryan Ramey, Jordan Ramey, Dwayne Ramey, Cameron Ramey, Neil Justus, Cory Cooper and Byron Cooper.

Timmy Ray Deel
(Vansant)

  Timmy Ray Deel, 46, of Vansant, died Saturday, May 13, 2006 at Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy.
  Born in Tazewell County, he was the son of the late Lonnie Deel and Antha June Edwards Deel. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, was a 1978 graduate of Grundy Senior High School, was a disabled former deputy for the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department and was of the Holiness faith. He attended Harman Holiness Church.
  He is survived by his wife, Debby Lorraine Owens Deel; two daughters, Tina Marie Yates and husband, Mark, of Dublin and Jennifer Renee Justice and husband, James, of Grundy; two sisters, Gladys Arrington and husband, Clinton, Jr. of Vansant and Katie Cox and husband, Robert, of Bristol, TN; one brother, Gary James Deel and wife, Leslie, of Cleveland, OH; and one granddaughter.
  Services were held Tuesday, May 16 at Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel, Grundy, with the Revs. Rudolf Sesco and Billy Ward officiating. Ronnie Ward presented a "Memories of Timmy" presentation. Burial followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill.
  Active pallbearers were Mark Yates, James Justice, Chris Horn, Richie Blankenship, Chad Mullins, Joshua Owens, Ray Wolford and Ronald Owens.
  Honorary pallbearers were Ronnie Ward and Dr. Clint Sutherland.

Lucy Paradine Perrigan
(Clinchco, VA)

  Lucy Paradine Perrigan, 84, of Clinchco, died Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at her home.
  Born in Dickenson County, she was a daughter of the late Johnny and Mellie Delaney Wood. She was a homemaker and was of the Old Regular Baptist faith.
  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Perrigan; one son, Jerry Perrigan; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Karen.
  She is survived by three sons, Wayne (Sue) Perrigan of Warren, MI; Darrell (Diana) Perrigan, of Clinchco and Barry Shane Perrigan of the home; five daughters, Ella (Walter) Coleman and Patsy (Fennie) Thacker, both of Haysi, Faye (Ralph) Owens of Parisburg and Gay Baker Hess and Sharon Willis, both of Clinchco; one brother, Leon Wood of Birchleaf; 21 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
  Services were held Friday, May 12 at Turner Old Regular Baptist Church with Elder A.L. Yates officiating. Burial followed in the Emory Perrigan Cemetery at Clinchco.
  Pallbearers were grandsons.

Billy Ray Hackney
(Lebanon, VA)

  Billy Ray Hackney, 63, of Lebanon, died Wednesday, May 10, 2006 in Russell County Medical Center, Lebanon, following an extended illness.
  Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Everette and Bonnie Hackney. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the Sandlick Primitive Baptist Church.
  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Glenn Hackney.
  He is survived by three children, Phillip Hackney of Davenport, Deborah Stephenson of Wilksboro, NC, and adoptive daughter, Cynthia Hackney of Roanoke; four sisters, Agnes Runyons of Davenport, Shirley Boyd and Maudie "Tootie" Gilbert, both of Vansant and Ellen Hurley of Grundy; three brothers, Harold Hackney of Davenport, Auty Hackney of Honaker and Trinkle Deel of Birchleaf; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one nephew.
  Services were held Thursday, May 11 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Garnell Gilbert and Bob Arrington officiating. Burial followed on Friday in the Compton Cemetery at Vansant.
  Pallbearers were friends and nephews.

Lorene Faye Eakin
(Waynesboro, VA)

  Lorene Faye Eakin, 54, of Waynesboro, died Monday, May 8, 2006 at her home.
  Born in Russell County, she was the daughter of Tolbert Harris of Honaker and the late Alice Belcher Harris. She was a member of Concord Brethren Church in Fairfield and Vesuvius Community Association.
  In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, June Harris, and two brothers, Cecil Glen Harris and Roy Roger Harris.
  In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Bob Eakin; three brothers, Darrell Harris and wife, Faye, of Honaker, James C. Harris and wife, Barbara, of Wetumpka, AL and John W. Harris and wife, Wanda, of Newport News; three sisters, Anna Pearl Ball and husband, Eb, of Brooklet, GA, Carroll Musick and husband, Joe, of Charles City and Patricia Helton and husband, Danny, of Williamsburg; five step-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
  Services were held Friday in Honaker with the Rev. Giles Wilson officiating. Interment followed in the Harris Family Cemetery.
  Pallbearers were Billy Joe Musick, Jr., Norman Harris, Jason Harris, Johnny Musick, Ronnie Musick and David Pruner.


Linda Carol Keen
(Raven, VA)

  Linda Carol Keen, 56, of Raven, died Sunday, May 14, 2006 in a Johnson City, TN hospital.
  Born in Richlands, she was the daughter of the late Andy and Dorothy McGlothlin Cantrell. She was a teacher for the Buchanan County School System.
  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Dwayne Edward Keen, and one brother, Donald Cantrell.
  She is survived by her husband, James K. Keen; two sons, Chris Keen of the home and Jim Keen of Fort Monmouth, NJ; two sisters, Connie Harris of Madison Heights and Nancy Cunning-ham of Pounding Mill; one half-brother, Randall Cantrell of Johnson City, TN; step-mother, Vernie (Rose) Cantrell of Whitewood.
  Services were held Wednesday, May 17 at Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel, Keen Mountain, with the Rev. Troy Lester officiating. Burial followed in the Cantrell Cemetery at Horn Mountain.
  Pallbearers were family and friends.

Franklin D. Shortridge
(Abingdon, VA)

  Franklin D. Shortridge, 66, of Abingdon, formerly of Buchanan County, died Monday, May 8, 2006 following a brief illness.
  Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Andy Adam and Cora Ethel Keen Shortridge. He had been a resident of Buchanan County many years, prior to moving to Abingdon. He was a retired employee of Island Creek Coal Company, a member of the United Mine Workers of America and a member of Little Martha Old Regular Baptist Church.
  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra Coleman, December 3, 2002, and one half-sister, Ruth Yates.
  He is survived by his wife, Janice Marie Compton Shortridge; two sisters, Dollie Ratliff of Grundy and Bonnie and husband, James Copen-haver of Abingdon; four brothers, Hearl and wife, Ilene Shortridge and Chester and wife, Lillian Shortridge, all of Vansant, Henry and wife, Helen Shortridge of Grundy and Jim and wife, Della Shortridge of Abingdon; one granddaughter.
  Services were held Friday, May 12 at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Elders Roger Coleman, Howard Daniels and others officiating. Burial followed in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock.
  Active pallbearers were family and friends.

Emma Gay Johnson
(Maple Gap, VA)

  Emma Gay Johnson, 79, of Maple Gap, died Sunday, May 14, 2006 at her home.
  Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Troy Arthur Shelton and Sally Elizabeth Johnson Colley. She had lived in Maple Gap for the past 50 years and was a member of the Faith in Christ Freewill Baptist Church at Bee.
  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Frank Colley, Ferrell Colley, Arson Colley, Clifford Colley and Edward Colley; and two sisters, Shadie Gayhart and Nellie Rife.
  She is survived by her husband, Benjamin Andrew Johnson; two sons, Banjamin Franklin Johnson and wife, Leanna Michelle, of Maple Gap, and Wilburn Scott Johnson and wife, Lisa Harmon of Lebanon; one daughter, Reba Faye Seth and husband, Roger, of Canton, MI; three brothers, Junior Ayres Colley of Richlands, Bob Shelton of Fort Wayne, IN and Eugene Shelton of Maple Gap; three sisters, Janie Church of Buchanan County, Betty Sargent of Jacksonville, NC, and Marylou Taylor of Georgia; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
  Services were held Wednesday in Honaker with the Revs. Roy Lee Wilson and Mike Dye officiating. Interment followed in Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon.
  Pallbearers were relatives and friends.


Emit Deel
(Birchleaf, VA)

  Emit Deel, 70, of Birchleaf, died Thursday, May 11, 2006 at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, TN.
  Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Lewis Deel and Naomi Stiltner Deel. He was a lifelong resident, a disabled coal miner and a member of the Old Regular Baptist faith.
  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant son, Aven Emit Deel, and two brothers, Clyde Deel and Dorcy Deel.
  He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Fay Conaway Deel; one daughter, Rita Elswick and husband, Samuel, of Birchleaf; two sons, Randy Deel and Darrell Deel, both of Birchleaf; five sisters, Bertha Looney and husband, Earl, of Dismal, Martha Owens of Alabama, Minnie Richardson of Florida, Shirley McFalls of North Carolina and Ruby Yates and husband, Rufus Hawkins, Jr. of Haysi; four brothers, Sid Deel of Vansant, Glenn Deel and Manis Deel, both of Haysi, and James Deel of North Carolina; one grandson, three granddaughters and three step-granddaughters.
  Services were held Monday, May 15 at Mountain View Old Regular Baptist Church on Rakes Ridge Mountain, Birchleaf, with Elders Mark Justice, Andy Deel, Toy Looney, Earl Hill and Aven
  Viers officiating. Burial followed in the Conaway Cemetery at Birchleaf.
  Active pallbearers were family and friends.
  Honorary pallbearers were T.L. Justice, Arland England, Joe Wolf, Dr. J.G. Patel, Dr. Barron, Dr. Roger McSharry and staff and Dr. Emory Robinett.

Norman Douglas Worley
(Raven, VA)

  Norman Douglas Worley, 65, of Raven, died Sunday, May 14, 2006 in a Bristol, TN hospital following an extended illness.
  Born in Leemaster, he was the son of the late Raleigh E. and Bonnie Gay Yates Worley, Sr. He had made his home in the Raven area for the past 25 years and was a retired meter reader for American Electric Power. He was a graduate of Garden High School, was of the Baptist faith and a U.S. Army veteran.
  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Stephen, Roger and Joseph Worley.
  He is survived by two sisters, Margaret Mullins and husband, Joe, of Abingdon and Darla VanDyke and husband, Johnny, of Bristol, VA; one brother, Raleigh E. Worley, Jr. and wife, Janet, of Pounding Mill; several nieces and nephews.
  Services were held Tuesday, May 16 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Evg. Lois Null officiating. Interment followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill. Members of Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 of Richlands conducted military graveside rites.
  Pallbearers were family and friends.

Bueford Paul Ratliff
(Cedar Bluff, VA)

  Bueford Paul Ratliff, 69, of the Maxwell section of Cedar Bluff, died Sunday, May 14, 2006 at a Richlands hospital following an extended illness.
  Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Carl and Edger Mae Horn Ratliff. He had made his home in Tazewell County for most of his life, was retired from Island Creek Coal Co. as a plant manager and was a member of the UMWA. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Rages Matney and Scotty Lambert; and step-sons, Robert Donithan and Richard Donithan.
  He is survived by his wife, Peggy Donithan Ratliff; one son, Tim Ratliff of Winchester; two daughters, Debbie Hill and husband, J.R. of Myrtle Beach, SC and Lea Anne Mulligan and husband, Kevin, of Chattanooga, TN; two step-sons, Jim Donithan of Claypool Hill and Joe Michael Donithan and wife, Cindy, of Tazewell; two step-daughters, Teresa Donathin Bowman and husband, Charles, of Pounding Mill and Margaret Donathin Lee and husband, David, of Winston-Salem, NC; sisters, Doris Parks and husband, Rondal, of Grundy, Phyllis Matney of Oakwood, Marie Matney and husband, Basil and Jan White and husband, Jerry, all of Richlands, Martha Lambert and Sue Howington, both of Cedar Bluff; brothers, Arnold Ratliff and wife, Gail, of Patterson and Arvil Ratliff and wife, Zella, of Oakwood; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.
  Services were held Wednesday, May 17 at New Hope Assembly Church at Claypool Hill with the Revs. Rondal Parks and Charles Casey officiating. Interment followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill.
  Pallbearers were Rudy Keith, Charles Bowman, Matthew Hill, David Lee, D-Ray Gibson and Derek White.
  Hurst-Scott Funeral Home of Tazewell was in charge of arrangements.


George W. Wimmer
(Abingdon, VA)

  George Washington "Joe" Wimmer, 86, of Abingdon, died Monday, May 15, 2006 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon. He was a member of the Abingdon Church of Christ, was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy, was a retired coal miner and an active member of the Hardee’s ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) Club.
  He was preceded in death by his parents, Suel and Alta Wimmer; his wife, Corby Goodman Wimmer; three grandchildren, Kimberly Maxwell, Gregory Maxwell and Samuel Cassity; one brother, Grat Wimmer; and one sister, Julie (Tootsie) Mullins Richardson.
  He is survived by his sons, Donald Ray Wimmer and wife, Betty, of Richlands, Ronald Lee Wimmer and wife, Shirley, of Pounding Mill and Jerry Wayne Wimmer and wife, Sandra, of Abingdon; two daughters, Carol Maxwell and Peggy Cole, both of Whitewood; one brother, Bill Wimmer of Whitewood; six sisters, Eva Goodman and June Horne, both of Whitewood, Hazel Andrews of Lenoir, NC, Bobby Harper of Flora Homes, FL, Orphia McCoy of Lecanto, FL and Shirley Wimmer of Abingdon; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
  Services will be held today (Thursday) May 18, at Abingdon Church of Christ with Bill Haywood officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill. Graveside rites will be conducted by The American Veterans Honor Guard Association of Richlands.
  Pallbearers will be Eric Wimmer, Wayne Wimmer, Ron Wimmer, Jr., Jimmy Cassity, Tim Jessee and Robbie Maxwell.
  Honorary pallbearers will be Hardee’s Romeo Club.
  Farris Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.


Charles Earl Stacy, Jr.
(Phelps, KY)

  Charles Earl (Junebug) Stacy, Jr., 61, of Phelps, KY, died Monday, May 15, 2006 at ARH Hospital, Williamson, WV.
  Born in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Jack Stacy and Edna Pearl Blan-kenship Stacy.
  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Agnes Avelene Phillips.
  He is survived by one daughter, Melissa Kitchen and husband, Bobby, of North Carolina; one son, Eddie Stacy of North Carolina; special niece, Diana Robinson of Wolford; and several grandchildren.
  Services will be held today (Thursday), May 18 at 1 p.m. at the Church of God, Guesses Fork section of Hurley with the Rev. Donnie Prater officiating. Burial will follow in the Robinson Family Cemetery on Main Knox at Hurley.
