JOSEPH YATES is pictured here in his military uniform in about 1914-1916. Born in 1886 in Mills Roche, Ontario, he was a son of Alex and Mary Yates. He married Mary Lou Emma Delong, who was born in 1897 in Buchanan County. According to a granddaughter, Yates is believed to have worked in the mines in the Buchanan County/McDowell County area before he followed the timber industry from Virginia to Washington State to Bristish Columbia to Oregan to California. The family is seeking information about Yates and DeLong. The photo was submitted by Mary Leslie, Yates' granddaughter, who lives in Tigard, Oregon.
