But
we’d

“We can win in the district with

We

The Lady Wave won six individual

a

of
1:07.8.
“This is the second time this
year
we’ve
won
every
field
event,”
Plymal
said.
“We
had a
great
meet.
Elizabeth
was
close
to a
standard
in
the
long

Corrie
Rife’s
been
running
real
good
in
the

“Riley has really come on the
last

Cobras
End
8-Game
Losing
Streak
with 6-5
Non-District
Victory
Over Twin
Springs |
|
|
|
by
Lloyd Combs
Sports Reporter
Council staged two
comebacks Thursday.
First it got past an
embarrassing defeat it suffered
earlier in the week. Then it
overcame a five-run deficit.
The Cobras ended an
eight-game losing streak with a
dramatic, 6-5, non-district
victory over Twin Springs Thursday
evening at Willie Sullivan Field.
Cody Jackson scored the
game-winning run on a balk in the
bottom half of the sixth. It broke
a tie game in which each team
scored five runs in one inning, in
a game where each squad gained one
run after debating a call with the
umpires.
Twin Springs plated five
runs, four of them unearned, in
the second. The Titans got just
two hits in the inning and managed
just three hits overall against
winning pitcher Kegan Bostic.
The unusual rally
included a walk, a balk and two
errors. It began with runners on
second and third, a strikeout,
wild pitch and a delay, because
the defense thought the home plate
umpire had ruled the ball dead.
The runner was sent back
to third and the batter was called
out. Twin Springs’ Coach Jerry
Fields pleaded his case, the
Titans got the first run of the
game and the batter was awarded
first.
The Cobras bounced back
in the fifth. A two-run double by
Corey Barton keyed the five-run
rally.
Natasha Wilson
added an RBI single as Council
(2-8) tied the game at 5-5.
In the sixth,
Jackson was originally called out,
but was awarded home on a balk
after Council Coach Dave Rasnake
successfully pleaded his case that
the pitcher threw to third before
he stepped off the pitching
rubber.
It was a big turnaround for
Council, and not just because of
its 5-0 deficit and month-long
losing streak. The Cobras entered
Thursday’s contest on the heels of
a 25-1 loss to Honaker on Tuesday.
“I talked to all the kids about
playing with heart,” Coach Rasnake
said. “We talked about it after
Tuesday’s game. We talked about it
in class. And the kids responded.
