GRUNDY’S MOLLY Doud is ruled eventually safe by the home plate umpire during a five-run second inning in game one of a twinbill against Twin Valley Thursday afternoon. Doud scored on an error when Twin Valley catcher Rachel Vandyke threw the ball down the third base line instead of throwing to pitcher Kim Street.  (Staff photo/Mike Stiltner.)

Lady Wave Sweeps Softball Twinbill From Lady Panthers

Sports Reporter

Grundy swept a doubleheader from Twin Valley, 14-1 and 4-0, in non-district action Thursday evening at the Encoh’s Branch softball field.
A six-run first inning set the tone for the Lady Wave in the first game.
Grundy sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning. Leadoff hitter Sarah Ratliff started the rally with a triple and scored on an RBI single up the middle by Sara Davis. Terri Stacy and Kayla Viers also had RBI hits in the opening frame for the Lady Wave.
Amber Foster picked up both mounds wins for Grundy (3-4). The junior tossed a one-hitter and struck out eight in the opener.
Twin Valley got its only run of game one in the second inning when Kristie Gilbert walked, advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches, and scored on a wild pitch after a walk to Rachel Vandyke.
The Lady Panthers only hit came in the first when Kersten Surrett singled. But she was retired on a fine defensive play by Grundy second sacker Sara Davis, who snagged Kim Street’s grounder, tagged Surrett and threw on to first to complete a double play.
Grundy sent 11 batters to the plate and came away with six more runs in the second. Lady Wave Catcher Amy Crouse opened the rally with a walk, then got an
RBI on a bases-loaded walk later in the inning.
In the inning, Stacy singled and Molly Doud laid down a perfect suicide squeeze bunt for Grundy.
The Lady Wave added two runs in the fourth inning. Foster had an RBI single and Tasha McGlothlin picked up an RBI when she was hit by a pitch with the bases
loaded.
Crouse finished the contest with three walks.
Foster, Ratliff and Stacy each had two hits.
