Grundy's Elizabeth Lindsay

Council's Ashley Stroehlein
Regional Achievement Winner

Grundy's Lindsay, Council's Stroehlein Named Regional Winners of Farm Bureau Insurance-VHSL Achievement Awards

Grundy senior Elizabeth Lindsay and Council senior Ashley Stroehlein have been named regional winners of the Farm Bureau Insurance-VHSL Achievement Awards.
The awards are known as the Virginia High School League’s premier program for recognition of individual students involved in athletic and  academic activities.
Winners or finalists are chosen from all four regions in each of the three VHSL classifications. One of the four regional finalists will be chosen as a state winner in Group A, AA and AAA.
Lindsay is the Region IV winner in Group AA. An honor student and a four-year, multiple-sport standout, Lindsay has excelled in basketball, volleyball, track and tennis at GHS.
She has earned all-district and all-region honors in basketball and volleyball over the course of her career.
In addition, Lindsay is a Southwest District high jump champ, a member of the SWD champion 4x400 relay team and a two-time state qualifier in track, in both the 400 and high jump.
“Elizabeth is a warrior,” says Grundy track Coach Craig Plymal. “She wants to do better no matter what it is.
“If she’s in English, she doesn’t want a 100 she wants a 102. If she jumps 4-6, she wants 4-8. It may go to her third jump, but you know you’ll get best effort on her last attempt.”
Ashley Stroehlein, the Group A, Region D winner, is also a fierce competitor who has excelled in several areas, in the classroom and in sports.
Stroehlein has achieved All-Black Diamond District honors in basketball, volleyball and softball and also competes in track and tennis at CHS, where she’s been at or near the top of her class as a senior.
“Ashley’s an excellent student,” says Dave Rasnake, the Council athletic director who also serves as girls basketball coach and is Ashley’s uncle. “She pays very close attention to detail and she’s very determined.
