Lola Mae Clevinger
(Maxie)

  Lola Mae Owens Clevinger, 81, of Maxie, died Sunday, March 26, 2006 in Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, TN, following an extended illness.
  Born in Dickenson County, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Mae Wright Owens. She had been a resident of Buchanan County most of her life and was a member of New Hope Christian Church. She was a former employee of Royal Laundry, Grundy Drug Co. and was a cook for the Buchanan County School System. She was a homemaker.
  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lummie Clevinger, January 24, 1979; one sister, Beulah Funk; two brothers, Auty and Clyde Owens; and five infant siblings.
  She is survived by three daughters, Juanita and husband, Charles Edwards and Andrea and husband, Robert Randolph, all of Maxie, and Cherida Ward of Atlanta, GA; three sisters, Julia Wood of Haysi, Emma Jean and husband, Bill Yates, of Rt. 1 Vansant and Darlene Porterfield of Medina, OH; five grandchildren, one step-grandson and four great-grandchildren.
  Services were held Wednesday, March 29 at New Hope Christian Church with Evg. Bill Neeley and David Matney officiating. Burial followed in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock.
  Active pallbearers were nephews and friends of the family.
  Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Clint Sutherland and men of New Hope Christian Church.
  Grundy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
 


Linda Gayle Boyd
(Maxie)

  Linda Gayle Boyd, 50, of Maxie, died Monday, March 27, 2006.
  Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of Anna Ruth Boyd and the late Woodrow Wilson Powers. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
  In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sons, Samuel Wayne Rasnake and Henry Evans Boyd, both of Maxie; two daughters, Sarah (Johnny) McCoy and Deidra Lynn Boyd, both of Maxie; one sister, Patricia Bostic of Council; two brothers, Clifford Powers and Woodrow Wilson Powers, Jr., both of Council; and two grandchildren.
  Services will be held today (Thursday), March 30 at Haysi Funeral Home with Kyle Ratliff and Roy Lee Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill.
  Pallbearers will be Ricky Vandyke, Kenny Prater, Shawn Bostic, Eddie Lockhart, William Rasnake and Wood-row Wilson Powers, Jr.
  Haysi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
 


Mattie Virginia Elswick
(Grundy)

  Mattie Virginia Elswick, of Rt. 5, Grundy, died Thursday, March 23, 2006 in Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy, following an extended illness.
  Born in Russell County, she was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a homemaker.
  She was preceded in death by one son, Robert Melvin Elswick III, three sisters and five brothers.
  She is survived by her husband, Robert Melvin Elswick, Jr. of Pembroke; two daughters, Debra Ann Elswick of Vansant and Delores Diane Elswick Short; one son, Kimmy Dean Elswick of Pembroke; three sisters, Helen Christian of Lebanon, Gladys White of Richlands and Nola Gross of Raven; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
  Services were held Tuesday, March 28 at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dannie Short officiating. Entombment followed in Mountain Rest Mausoleum at Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock.
  Active pallbearers were family and friends.
  Grundy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
 


Bridget Kay Lester
(Grundy)

  Bridget Kay Lester, 23, of Grundy, died Friday, March 24, 2006 at the home of Marty Stacy following an extended illness.
  Born in Tazewell County, she was a daughter of Loranzie and Lois Ann Vandyke Lester of Grundy. She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and attended Big Branch Church of Christ.
  In addition to her parents, she is survived by her fiance’, Marty Leander Stacy of Oakwood; one daughter, Tiffany Marie Lester of Hurley; two sons, Dustin Leander Stacy of Oakwood and Jacob Tyler Stacy of Grundy; one sister, Elizabeth Ann and husband, Stevie Justus of Hurley; two brothers, Randy Lee Lester and Alex Boone Lester, both of Grundy; grandmother, Hazee Ratliff of Grundy; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
  Services were held Monday, March 27 at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Evg. Michael Trent and the Rev. Ronnie Parks officiating. Burial followed in the Hibbitts Cemetery in Grundy.
  Active pallbearers were family and friends.
  Grundy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
 


Quinton Edward Dye
(Mavisdale)

  Quinton Edward Dye, 52, of Mavisdale, died Thursday, March 23, 2006 in a Richlands hospital following an extended illness.
  Born in Richlands, he was the son of James Edward and Lizzie Melinda Miller Dye of Mavisdale. He was a maintenance worker for the Buchanan County Sanitation Department and was a former employee for Island Creek Coal Company/Consol. He was of the Freewill Baptist Church faith.
  He was preceded in death by one sister, Rose Marie Dye.
  In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Norma Kestner Dye; one daughter, Melinda Deskins and husband, Jared, of Mavisdale; four brothers, Millard Dye, Harold Dye and Wade Dye, all of Mavisdale and Bruce Dye of Patterson.
  Services were held Saturday, March 25 at Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel, Keen Mountain, with the Revs. Sonny Perkins, Jason Nunley and Carl Harman officiating. Burial followed in the Wilson Cemetery at Drill.
  Pallbearers were Richard Keen, Herman Bailey, Freddy Rife, Joe Baldwin, Jeff Rasnake, Joe Deel, Keith Baldwin and Dave Looney.
  Honorary pallbearers were Coulter Parker, Richard Brewer, Travis Cooke, Roy Smith, Jeffrey Dye, Doug Dye, Matthew Dye, Darrell Blan-kenship and employees of the Buchanan County Sanitation Department.
  Buchanan Funeral Services, Keen Mountain, was in charge of arrangements.
 

 

Florence Baker Lester
(Grundy)

  Florence Baker Lester, 71, of Grundy, died Thursday, March 23, 2006 at Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy, following an extended illness.
  Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Jink and Eva Justus Baker. She was a resident of Buchanan County most of her life and attended Grace Baptist Church in Fries. She was a homemaker.
  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil David Lester, January 26, 2005; one son, William Curtis Lester in 1984; six sisters and two brothers.
  She is survived by one daughter, Betty Lou Baldwin of Galax; five sons, Steve Baker of Hurley, Stanley Lester of Grundy, Michael Lester of Oakwood, David Scott Lester of Galax and James Harold Lester of Chilhowie; one sister, Nancy Fugate of Grundy; three brothers, Elder George Baker and Dale Baker, both of Grundy and Wayne Baker of Gordonsville; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
  Services were held Sunday, March 26 at Mary Lou Old Regular Baptist Church at State Line Ridge #1 in Paynesville with Elders Junior Lester, Archie Price, Roscoe Crouse, Gary Estep, Roger Coleman and other Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial followed in the Lester Cemetery on State Line Ridge #1 in Paynesville.
  Active pallbearers were family and friends.

Ralph Stiltner
(Grundy)

  Ralph Stiltner, 79, of Rt. 1, Grundy, died Thursday, March 23, 2006 at Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy, following an extended illness.
  Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Corbet and Rosie McClanahan Stiltner. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and a retired employee of Grundy Hospital with 38 years of service.
  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Whited; one brother, Dorse Stiltner; two half-brothers, Bill Belcher and Claude Belcher; one half-sister, Ethel Lee; two step-sisters, Georgia Wallace and Madeline Allen; and two step-brothers, Lundy McClanahan and Buster McClanahan.
  He is survived by one sister, Audrey Ann Smith of Meadowview; four brothers, Haven H. Stiltner of Rt. 1, Grundy, Charles H. Stiltner of Breaks, Willard A. Stiltner of Worthington, PA and James Stewart Stiltner of Colorado Springs, CO; one half-brother, Bill McClanahan of Kansas City, KS; several nieces and nephews.
  Services were held Saturday, March 25 at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Evgs. Michael Trent and Rusty Owens officiating. Burial followed in Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands.
  Active pallbearers were family and friends.
  Grundy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
 


Gladys C. Stiltner
(Grundy)

  Gladys C. Endicott Stiltner, 66, of Grundy, died Thursday, March 23, 2006 at Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy, following an extended illness.
  Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Pinkie Stiltner Endicott. She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was of the Freewill Baptist faith. She was a homemaker.
  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, two sisters and two brothers.
  She is survived by four daughters, Connie Jean and husband, Dallas Reynolds and Mary C. Coleman, all of Grundy, Linda K. and husband, Manis Deel of Haysi and Patricia Ann Taylor of Abingdon; one son, Wayne Stiltner of Grundy; three sisters, Lydia Hurley and Lola Looney, both of Grundy and Madie Ratliff of Harman; one brother, Walter Endicott of North Carolina; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
  Services were held Monday, March 27 at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Elders Paul McClanahan and Bill Campbell officiating. Burial followed in the Stiltner Cemetery on Six & Twenty Mile Branch near Grundy.
  Active pallbearers were family and friends.

Jobie Willard Daniels, Sr.
(Denton, NC)

  Jobie Willard Daniels, Sr., 41, of Denton, NC, died Saturday, March 25, 2006 at his home.
  A native of Grundy, he was a son of Willard Justus and Rebecca Blankenship Greer and has resided in Randolph County for the past 12 years.
  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kayla Ann Daniels in 1983.
  In addition to his mother and father, he is survived by his wife, Rebecca Dotson Daniels; two sons, Jobie Willard Daniels, Jr. and Dalton Ray Daniels of the home; step-father, Jimmy Greer of Trinity; sisters, Janet Steele and Shelly Ratliff, both of Denton; brothers, Stevie Daniels of Hurley and William Wick Daugherty of Thomasville.
  Services will be held today (Thursday), March 30 at Little Dove Old Regular Baptist Church at Hurley. Burial will follow in the Justus Family Cemetery at Hurley.
  Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale is in charge of arrangements.
 


Cecil Ratliff
(Unionville, VA)

  Cecil Ratliff, 71, of Unionville, died Saturday, March 25, 2006 in Culpeper Regional Hospital.
  Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Granvel Holiday Ratliff and Josie Shortt.
  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Bercie Ratliff and one daughter-in-law, Teresa Ann Ratliff.
  He is survived by his wife, Ida Bell Ratliff; one son, Luther Holiday Ratliff, Sr. and wife, Janet, of Unionville; one daughter, Carol Shelby Jobe and husband, Freddie Eugene Jobe, Sr. of Unionville; one brother, Gorman Ratliff; three sisters, May Ywatt, Bee Lester and June Blankenship; three grandsons, four granddaughters and 13 great-grandchildren.
  Services were held Wednesday, March 29 at Johnson Funeral Home in Locust Grove. Interment followed in Laurel Hill Memorial Park, Spotsylvania.
  Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
 


Janey Wilma Durrer
(Lebanon, VA)

  Janey Wilma Durrer, 61, of Lebanon, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006 in a Lebanon hospital.
  Born in Culpeper, she was a daughter of the late James and Juanita Henry Furry. She had spent most of her life in the northern Virginia and Maryland areas, moving to Lebanon two years ago. She was of the Baptist faith.
  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Durrer.
  She is survived by two daughters, Teresa Helton and husband, Timmy, of Council and Michelle Hall of Silver Springs, MD; one son, Mark Lambert of Washington, DC; two sisters, Doris Clatterbuck and husband, Joe, of Tazewell and Cathy Phillips of Virginia; two brothers, Glen Furry and J.R. Furry, both of Virginia; one half-sister, Dorothy Boone of West Virginia; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
  Services were held Saturday in Honaker with Pastor Carl Burmeier officiating. Interment followed in the Lambert Cemetery on Fletcher’s Ridge.
  Pallbearers were members of Hurricane Baptist Church.
 


Martha J. Stanley
(Haysi, VA)

  Martha J. Stanley, 87, of Rt. 1, Haysi, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Dickenson Community Hospital in Clintwood.
  Born in Dickenson County, she was a daughter of the late Patton and Nickitie Mullins. She was a homemaker and a member of Bartlick Freewill Baptist Church.
  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clement Arvil Stanley; one daughter, Rita Gay Stanley; one sister, Louemma Stevens; and eight brothers, Charlie, Steven, Merdie, Jack, Columbus, Rufus, Jess and Kemp Mullins.
  She is survived by four daughters, Irene Anderson and Alice (Gary) Ratliff, both of Haysi, Lorene Wood of Vansant and Dessel (Swain) Musick of Richlands; three sons, James Arvil, Sidney (Lorene) and Kenneth (Vanita) Stanley, all of Haysi; 25 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
  Services were held Sunday, March 26 at Haysi Funeral Home with Junior Deel and James Sweeney officiating. Burial followed in the Stanley Cemetery at Rt. 1, Haysi.
  Pallbearers were grandsons.
