Grundy's Tabitha Whited Inks Letter of Intent to Run Cross Country at Concord University

Tabitha Whited puts in a lot of time running.
The time she's spent has earned her a chance to run for four more years.
Whited signed a letter of intent last week to join the cross country squad at Concord University, where she'll compete on the NCAA Division II level. The Grundy High School senior is expected to step right in and do just that for coach Mike Cox, who recently competed in the Olympic marathon trials in New York City.
"She'll probably step right in as a number two runner at Concord," Grundy cross country coach Craig Stiltner says. "That's pretty exceptional for a freshman, but Tabitha's worked hard to get to this point. She's one of the hardest workers I've had at Grundy."
Grundy has established itself as one of the better cross country programs in the Southwest District and Region IV in recent years. Whited won several events as a senior and was one of the team leaders on a young Grundy squad last fall.

Richlands' Mulkey Named 'Player of Year'

Grundy's Cody Billiter was among the First Team selections on the All-Southwest District boys basketball team for 2008, as voted on by SWD coaches.
Billiter, who led the SWD in scoring with 20 points per game, joins Ben Mulkey and of Richlands, Carroll County's Jacob Singleton, Marion's Gavin Poe and of Abingdon on the All-SWD First Team.
Billiter finished his career with 983 points. Teammate Bobby Peck was a selection.
Grundy's Peck, D.J. Gelenster, Joseph Stephens and Derek Hess were named honorable mention among the All-SWD selections.
Mulkey, who will graduate as the career scoring leader at Richlands, was named SWD Player of the Year.
Abingdon's B.J. Lasley was named SWD Coach of the Year.

Haysi Opens Diamond Season With 11-1 Win Over Wave

Haysi opened the baseball season with an 11-1 win over Grundy in a five-inning non-district contest Thursday evening at Flanagan Dam.
A six-run first inning was more than enough offensive support for Justin Blair, who allowed just three hits in five innings to earn the win for the Tigers.
Blair aided his own cause with two hits and four RBIs.
Joe Yates had two hits and drove in two runs for Haysi.
Joseph Stephens had a triple and drove in the lone Grundy run. Freshman Jonathan Kelly took the loss for Grundy.
