Yvonne Fain Wimmer, 68, of Grundy, died Monday, March 13, 2006
at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands.
Born in McDowell County, WV, she was the daughter of the
late Raymond Everett Fain and Belva Kathleen Wallace Fain. She
was of the Baptist faith and was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, James Perry Wimmer; one son, Terry Keith Wimmer; one
brother, Raymond Fain; and one sister, Jackie Cantrell.
She is survived by her daughter, Dolores Justus and husband,
Ray, of Grundy; four sisters, Brenda Dotson and Sarita Stacy,
both of Abingdon, Mavin Tracy of Dover, DE and Debbie Rife of
Statesville, NC; one granddaughter.
Services will be held Tuesday, March 14 at Shortridge-Ramey
Funeral Home, Grundy, with Elder Roger Coleman officiating.
Burial followed in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock.
Active pallbearers were family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers were Joe Keen and Roger Jackson.

Dale Prater, 35, of Hurley, died Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at his
home.
Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of Vinidua Gaye Keen
Prater of Bluff City, TN and the late Arnold Prater. He was a
game fowl breeder.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one son, John
Thomas (JT) Prater of Hurley; two sisters, Mrs. Greg (Teresa)
Whitt of Blountville, TN and Trina Prater of Bluff City; three
brothers, Phillip Prater and wife, Quemby, of Hurley, Kennith
Gene Keen of Oakvale, WV and Arnold Ray Prater of Bluff City;
one step-brother, Dexter Dotson, of Oakwood; step-father,
Willard Dotson of Bluff City; companion, Linda Rister; several
nieces and nephews.
Services were held Saturday, March 11 at the Kelsa Church of
Christ with Evg. Vernor Blankenship officiating. Burial
followed in the Prater Family Cemetery at Hurley.
Pallbearers were Arnold Ray Prater, Phillip Prater, Greg
Whitt, Gene Keen, Mark Prater, Jarrett Prater, Terry Dotson
and Kennith Keen.

Keene Canterl Compton, 91, of the Poplar Creek section of Rt.
2, Grundy, died Friday, March 10, 2006 at Heritage Hall
Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Born in Buchanan County, she was a member of Stone Coal
Primitive Baptist Church and was owner and manager of Canterl
Grocery on Poplar Creek for several years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Gene
Canterl, April 30, 1968 by her second husband, Leslie Compton,
April 24, 1982; four sisters, Garnett Barker, Jessie Pearl
Adkins, Georgia Greer and Josephine Sutherland; and one
brother, A.J. Keene.
She is survived by three daughters, Helen and husband, J.D.
Matney, of Grundy, Gaynell and husband, Fred Morris, of
Charlottesville and Ruth and husband, Delano Earnest of
Clarksville, TN; three step-daughters, Janet Hayes of Pelion,
SC, Brenda Wadson of Hartland, MI and Debby Kiser of Almont,
MI; three sisters, Ruby Austin and Vergie Roberts, both of
Bluefield, VA and Clogene Armstrong of Lawrenceville, GA;
three brothers, Bob Keene and Dillard Keene, both of Tazewell
and Jack Keene of Elkton, MD; one granddaughter, one grandson
and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, March 13 at Grundy Funeral Home
Chapel with Elders Danny Smith and Ked Stacy officiating.
Burial followed in the Canterl Cemetery near the home on
Poplar Creek.
Active pallbearers were nephews.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of

Buchanan County.

Robert Doil Cooper, 58, of the Pea Patch section of Whitewood,
died Monday, March 6, 2006 in a Durham, NC hospital following
a brief illness.
Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of Pearl Wimmer
Cooper of Pea Patch and the late Booker Cooper. He had made
his home in the Pea Patch area his entire life and was a
retired coal miner from Island Creek Coal Company’s V.P. #1.
He was a graduate of Whitewood High School’s class of 1967 and
was an Elder and member of Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist
Church at Pea Patch. He was also a member of UMWA Local at
Oakwood.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one
infant son, Christopher Cooper; three brothers, Charlie, Mearl
and Millard Cooper; and two nieces.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Wanda
Hagerman Cooper; one son, Robert Shane Cooper of Stuart; five
sisters, Geraldine Reed and husband, Willard and Josephine
Shelton and husband, Clarence, all of Jewell Ridge and Agnes
Lester and husband, Bill, Yvonne Keen and husband, Charlie and
Sue Lawson and husband, Arthur, all of Whitewood; one brother,
Glen Cooper; two sisters-in-law, Bertha Cooper of Whitewood
and Anita Sue of Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Saturday, March 11 at Pilgrim Rest
Primitive Baptist Church with Elders Unice Davis, John Davis,
Aaron Williams and Chad Crawford officiating. Interment
followed in the Cooper Family Cemetery at Pea Patch.
Pallbearers were nephews.

Hollis Stacy, 69, of Grundy, died Monday, March 13, 2006 at
Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Grundy.
Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Fred and
Adeline Stacy. He was a retired coal miner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by three brothers, Barnes Stacy, Freddie
Stacy, Jr. and Clinard Stacy, all of Grundy; and two sisters,
Evelyn Marie Dotson of Roseann and Shelby Jean Howiler of
Cleveland, OH.
Services were held Wednesday, March 15 at Elkins Branch
Pentecostal Church of God with the Rev. Ronald Lee Lester
officiating. Burial followed in the Stacy Cemetery on Stone
Coal Road, Grundy.
Pallbearers were family and friends.
Virginia Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Maxine Vandyke, 83, of Oakwood, died Monday, March 13, 2006 at
her home following a brief illness.
Born in Canebrake, WV, she was the daughter of the late
Henry and Cynthia Smith. She was of the Holiness faith and a
1940 graduate of Big Creek High School. She was the last
surviving member of her immediate family in her generation.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Bascome S. Vandyke, March 30, 1999; 13 sisters and
brothers.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Tom (Phyllis)
Looney of Oakwood, Mrs. Joe (Doris) Cowart of Pittsville, AL
and Mrs. John (Wilma) Holmes of Amherst; six grandsons and 11
great-grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, March 15 at Buchanan Funeral
Service Chapel, Keen Mountain, with the Revs. Arvil Arwood and
Ancil Childress officiating. Burial followed in the Vandyke
Family Cemetery at Garden Creek.
Pallbearers were Jerry Vandyke, Randy Vandyke, Mack Vandyke,
Danny Vandyke, Bradley Looney and Sam Harris.

Ernestine Layne Griffith, 73, of Lebanon, died Tuesday,
March 7, 2006 in a Lebanon, VA hospital.
Born in Kimper, KY, she was a daughter of the late Willis
Layne and Elsie Williamson Layne Goodwin. She had spent her
early life in the Buchanan County area, later moving to
Manassas, and had resided in the Elk Garden area since 1975.
She was a member of the Assembly of God in the Green Valley
section of Lebanon and was active in art and music.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
her husband, Robert Cecil Griffith, and one daughter, Shelby
Jean James.
She is survived by three sons, Darrel W. Griffith of
Manassas, Gary W. Griffith of Lake Anna and Donnie R.
Griffith of Elk Garden; one son-in-law, Lee James of Cedar
Bluff; two brothers, Charles J. Layne of Miami, FL and
Donald E. Layne of St. Paul; one sister, Marie Pittman of
Vansant; 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, five
nieces and three nephews.
Services were held Friday in Honaker with the Revs. Grady
McGlothlin and Robert Lawson officiating. Interment followed
in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill.
Pallbearers were Robert Griffith, Layne Griffith, Jeff
James, Christopher Layne, Jimmy Pittman, Bubby Layne, Eric
Griffith and Matthew Griffith.

at Dickenson Community Hospital in Clintwood.
Born in Michigan, she was a daughter of James Belcher and
the late Noma Edwards Belcher.
In addition to her father, she is survived by a daughter,
Jamie Hill, of Clinchco; one sister, Terry Lee Dugenske of
Winston Salem, NC; two brothers, John David Belcher of Haysi
and James Dean Belcher of Wilkesboro, PA; several nieces,
nephews, aunts and uncles.
Services were held Friday, March 10 at Haysi Funeral Home
with Elders Freddie Ramey and Buster Mullins officiating.
Burial followed in the Mitchell Senter Cemetery at Haysi.
Pallbearers were cousins.

contributions to the Diabetes Foundation.

Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at a Richlands hospital following an
extended illness.
Born in England, she was the daughter of the late Fred and
Veronica McDonald Fyfe. She had made her home in the
northern Virginia area most of her life and was a retired
Consumer Affairs manager for the U.S. Postal Service.
She is survived by one daughter, Whitney Reardon of
Reston; one son, Dean Reardon of Mavisdale; and three
grandchildren, Bridgit Kuhn, McKenzie Kuhn and Elliott Kuhn.
A remembrance service was held Saturday, March 11 at the
Golden Age Retirement Home at Claypool Hill.

Deel, 76, of Haysi, died Saturday, March 11, 2006 at
Buchanan General in Grundy. He was a son of the late Larkin
and Rosie Raines Deel. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a retired
truck driver and miner, a member of UMWA Local #7170 and a
member of Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church for 20
years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
two brothers, Cecil and Clovis Deel, and one sister, Bonnie
Meadows.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl Deel; one daughter,
Robin (Tim) Yates of Haysi; three sisters, Margaret Owens of
Mt. Gilead, OH, Faye Whitney of Jonesville, OH and Janice
Keen of Mt. Vernon, OH; three brothers, Starlin Deel of
Haysi, Trinkle Deel and Troy Deel, both of Mt. Gilead; two
granddaughters.
Services were held Wednesday, March 15 at Russell Prater
Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders Andy Deel, Denny Deel,
Roger Coleman, Mark Justice and Freelin Yates officiating.
Burial followed in the Parrot Deel Cemetery at Haysi.
American Legion Post #164 of Grundy conducted military
graveside rites.

at her home following an extended illness.
Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late
Josh Deel and Beulah Deel Deel. She was a former employee of
Grundy Hospital, a member of the Haysi Church of Christ and
was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
her husband, Fred Deel; and four sons, Armis Deel, Leon Deel,
Troy Deel and Harlis Deel.
She is survived by four daughters, Wannetta Woods of Feds
Creek, KY, Venice Church and Dinah Rene Sauer, both of Haysi
and Evelyene Bentley of Grundy; four sons, Ritchie Blaine
Deel of Haysi, Venable Deel and Jeffery Perry Deel, both of
Bristol, TN and Fred Allen Deel of Elkhorn City, KY; one
sister, Ilene Willis of Haysi; one brother, Lonzo Deel of
Clinchco; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, March 14 at Greenbrier Mission
Baptist Church at Prater with the Rev. Gary Viers and Evg.
Mike Rife officiating. Burial followed in Greenhills Memory
Gardens, Claypool Hill.

Ann Wilson, 68, of Delta, PA, died at her home Saturday,
March 11, 2006 following an extended illness.
Born in Grundy, she was the daughter of the late J.C. and
Ida May (Ashby) Williamson. At the age of 14, she moved from
Grundy to Justice, WV, moving later to Northeast, MD and
Delta in 1956. She had been employed at Betty Lee’s Beauty
Shop following her retirement from D&D Sewing in Delta and
opened Ann’s Beauty Shop. She was a member of Woodbine
Believers Assembly where she served as a choir member.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
one great-grandson, Dominick Aller, and her brother, Gene
Williamson.
In addition to her husband, Freman Wilson, she is survived
by one son, Fred F. Wilson of Hallam, PA; one daughter,
Dianna (Dee-Dee) Dawn Schumann of Lebanon, PA; two
grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
Graveside funeral services and interment was held Tuesday,
March 14 at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York, PA with
Pastor James A. Baldwin officiating.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of

Road, Airville, PA 17302.

Keen Sr., 97, of Rochester, died at his home Tuesday, March
7, 2006.
Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Thomas
and Ferby (Matney) Keen. He worked several years in the
logging and coal mining industry.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
his wife, Ruby Pearl Cook, April 13, 1994; three sons and
two daughters, Glen Keen Jr., Carlous Keen, Williard Keen,
Mildred Whitt and Ruth Keen; and by 10 brothers and sisters,
Effie, Mary, Wallace, Patty, Reece, Stuart, Charles, Roy,
Cora and Bessie.
A remembrance service was held Monday, March 13 at
Sticklin Funeral Home in Centralia. A graveside service was
held at Ground Mound Cemetery in Rochester.

at Welch Community Hospital in Welch, WV.
Born in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Lonnie
Belcher and Brenda Dobbs Belcher. He was a lifetime resident
of McDowell County, a 1999 graduate of Big Creek High School
in War, WV and was an outdoorsman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
his paternal grandparents, Riley and Minerva Milam Belcher.
He is survived by his maternal grandparents, the Rev. Fred
Dobbs and wife, Lona, of Jolo; six uncles, Stanley Dobbs of
Raysal, WV, Gearld Dobbs and Randy Dobbs, both of Jewell
Ridge, Ricky Dobbs of Princeton, WV, Christopher Dobbs of
Jolo, Fred G. Dobbs of Woodlawn; and several cousins.
Services will be held today (Thursday), March 16 at 1 p.m.
at the Community Church of the Living God at Three Forks in
Jolo, with the Revs. Charlie Kennedy and Jimmy Allen
officiating. Burial will follow in the Hatfield Family
Cemetery at Buckeye in Jolo.
Active pallbearers will be family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Dobbs, Jerry Wayne
Dobbs, Stephen Dobbs, Chad Dobbs, Raymond Dobbs, Don Dobbs,
