Walter Perry Taylor, Jr.
(Hurley)

  Walter Perry Taylor, Jr., 48, of Hurley, died Wednesday, November 22, 2006.
  Born in West Palm Beach, FL., he was the son of the late Walter Perry Taylor Sr. and Mary McDade Taylor. He was a line man for a local power company, enjoyed Nascar, boating, traveling and was a sportsman.
  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one step-son, Billy Jo Rogers.
  He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Endicott Taylor; two sisters, Missy Lohman of Virginia, and Amber Stennett of Pennsylvania; one step-daughter, Judy Yvett Edminston and husband, David, of Kentucky; two step-sons, Randall Ray Horton and wife, Aneta, of South Carolina, and Phillip Lemarr Horton and wife, Debbie, of Florida; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
  Services were held Sunday, November 26 at Blackley Baptist Church with the Rev. Willard Sturgeon officiating. Burial followed in the Dan Blankenship Cemetery at Hurley.
  Active pallbearers were Chuck Lohman, Jr. , Dennis Stennett, Ricky Church, and family and friends.
  Honorary pallbearers were Ronald Keith Ford, Aaron Church, Curtis Gibson, Virgil West, and Donald Jones.
  Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Herbert Dewayne Belcher
(Wolford)

  Herbert (Herb) Dewayne Belcher, 29, of Wolford, died Tuesday November 28, 2006 following a motor vehicle accident on Rt. 650, Homecreek.
  Born in Pike County, KY, he was the son of Randall David Belcher and Patty Sue Swiney Belcher, both of Big Rock. He was of the Christian faith, was a graduate of Hurley High School's class of 1996, and was employed by Excello Mining Products.
  In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Danelle Blankenship Belcher; two daughters, Elizabeth Mackenzie Belcher, and Ariana Grace Nikole Belcher, both of the home; one son, Jordan Kyle Belcher of the home; one sister, Lucinda Jean Lowe and husband, Tony, of Big Rock; father and mother-in-law, Danny and Diana Blankenship of Hurley; one brother-in-law, Derail Blankenship;  two nieces, several aunts and uncles.
  Services were held Saturday, December 2 at Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel, Grundy, with the Rev. Doug Blankenship officiating. Burial followed in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock.
  Pallbearers were Ernest Vanover, Ricky May, Curtis Cooper, Doug Coleman, Derail Blankenship, Joe Jackson, Mark Jackson, Chris Jackson, and Ronald Stump.
  Honorary pallbearers were employees of  Excello Mining Products of Big Rock and his many friends and family.
  Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Roy William Jackson
(Vansant)

  Roy William Jackson, 68, of Vansant, died Sunday, December 3, 2006 at Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy, following an extended illness.
  Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Elbert and Bertha Coleman Jackson. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a disabled miner.
  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Grober, and four brothers.
  He is survived by his wife, Corvel "Nina" Yates Jackson; three daughters, Sandra Bowman, Wilma Jackson and Diana Cook, all of Vansant; four sons, Roger Coleman of Vansant, David Jackson of Roanoke, Garnie Coleman of Bland and Darrell Coleman of Lawrenceville; two sisters, Rose Sidwell of Orrville, OH and Gertrude McGlothlin of Blountville, TN; one granddaughter and 12 step-grandchildren.
  Services will be held today (Thursday), December 7 at 11 a.m. at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Bobby Stanley, Shelia Stanley, Arlie and Geraldine Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in the Boyd Cemetery on Big Fox near Vansant.
  Active pallbearers will be family and friends.

Zada Louisa Breeding
(Hurricane Creek)

  Zada Louisa Ray Breeding, 69, of the Hurricane Creek section of Rt. 1, Vansant, died Monday, November 27, 2006 in a Kingsport, TN hospital.
  Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Martha Barton Ray. A lifelong resident of Buchanan County, she attended Bee Pentecostal Church.
  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Elene Phillips.
  She is survived by her husband, Keithel Breeding; two daughters, Anita Ratliff and husband, Greg, of Richlands and Rebecca Breeding, of Vansant; one son, Michael Breeding and wife, Melanie, of Vansant; one sister, Lorene Rasnake of Vansant; three brothers, Lester Ray of Vansant, Sonny Ray of Fredricksburg and Darrell Ray of Lebanon; four grandchildren, Stacy Presley and wife, Lisa, Shane David Presley, Ashley Nicole Ratliff and Calab Michael Breeding; several nieces and nephews.
  Services were held Thursday, November 30 in Honaker with the Rev. Carl Burmeier officiating. Entombment followed in Ketron Memorial Gardens, Lebanon.
  Pallbearers were Rannie Breeding, Dave Dye, Larry Tiller, Tivis Boyd, Jr., Russell Ray, Eric Wampler, Don Wampler and Harless Breeding.

(Haysi, VA)

  Vandora Coleman Boyd, 67, of Rt. 2, Haysi, died Monday, November 27, 2006 in Clintwood at the home of her daughter.
  Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Oliver and Mindy Deel Coleman. She was a homemaker and was of the Old Regular Baptist faith.
  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Denver and Goldie; three brothers, Sherman, Emory and George; and two sisters, Pearlie and Evaline.
  She is survived by her husband, Felix Junior Boyd; five children, Drushey Boyd of Clintwood and Winford Boyd, Norma Jean (Dennis) Fuller, Ezra (Janet) Boyd and Diane Renee (Mark) Yates, all of Haysi; sisters, Vernie Yates, Orpha Yates, Essie Margaret Coleman, all of Haysi, Lexie Hicks of Paintsville, WV and Sylvia Boyd of Lynchburg; brothers, David, Casby and Burnice Coleman, all of Haysi; and grandchildren, James, Chris, Nathan, Silas, Ashley, Cassie, Laken, Jodi, Breanna, Tonya, Kristy and Wendy.
  Services were held Friday, December 1 at Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders Jimmy Amos, Mark Justice, Roger Coleman, Aven Viers and Donnie Sparks officiating. Burial followed in the Bart Deel Cemetery at Haysi with Elders Frank Newsome, Danny Yates and Columbus Fleming singing and holding prayer.
  Pallbearers were family and friends.

Gladys Arlene Ray
(Swords Creek, VA)

  Gladys Arlene Ray, 81, of the Miller Creek section of Swords Creek, died Sunday, December 3, 2006 following an extended illness.
  Born in Swords Creek, she was a daughter of the late Ira and Tina Perkins Miller. A lifelong resident of the area, she was of the Christian faith.
  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Garnett Ray; one son, Thomas Eugene Ray; five brothers, Bazzie Miller, Claude Miller, Carlos (Pete) Miller, Glenn (Doc) Miller and Harley (Penney) Miller; and four sisters, Lizzie Dye, Elsie Miller, Minnie Hubbard and Hazel Taylor.
  She is survived by two sons, Keith Ray and Jacky Ray and wife, Wanda, all of Swords Creek; three daughters, Lucille and husband, Ferrell McGlothlin and Reba and husband, Robert Robinson, all of Swords Creek and Sue and husband, Eugene Miller, of Honaker; one brother, Junior Miller of Gardener; 11 grandchildren - Kim Ray, Shannon Ray, Kimber Ray, Cody Ray, Emma Ray, Craig Miller, Mike Miller, Rodney Miller, Brandon Miller, Jakeyma Robinson and Candida Robinson; four step-grandchildren - Mark McGlothlin, Debbie Jackson, Nette McFadden and Jake Mitchell;  six great-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
  Services were held Wednesday in Honaker with the Revs. Leo Hess, David Perkins and Jess Whited officiating. Interment followed in the Ray-Plaster Cemetery in the Call Valley section of Swords Creek.
  Pallbearers were Mike Miller, Rodney Miller, Jake McGlothlin, Fraiser Saunders, Burley Miller, Steve Damron, Wayne Damron, Kim Ray and Shannon Ray.


Earl Wayne Jackson
(Bristol, VA)

  Earl Wayne Jackson, 25, of Bristol, VA, formerly of Buchanan County, died Saturday, December 2, 2006 at Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, TN, following an extended illness.
  Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of Earl Willie Jackson of Vansant and Margie Marie Minor Jackson of Indiana. He was a resident of Buchanan County several years prior to moving to Bristol and was a member of Ratliff Chapel Church.
  He is survived by his wife, Christy Scott Jackson; step-mother, Colleen Jackson of Vansant; one daughter, Leah Elizabeth Jackson of Bristol, VA; one son, Jacob Wayne Jackson, of Bristol, VA; three half-sisters, Charlotte Endicott and Shirley Endicott, both of North Carolina and Tasha Endicott of Michigan; one step-sister, Courtney Coleman of Ohio; one brother, Matthew John Jackson of Vansant; three half-brothers, Michael Endicott of North Carolina and Brian Jackson and Bobby Jackson, both of Indiana; two step-brothers, Nicholas Jenkins of Vansant and Richard Jenkins of Ohio; one nephew.
  Services will be held Friday, December 8 at 1 p.m. at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Terry Colley, Ronnie Brewster and Edgar Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in the Boyd Cemetery on Big Fox near Vansant.
  Active pallbearers will be Herman Jackson, Jr., Gary Jackson, Perry Jackson, Clyde Jones, Shannon Dotson, Sherman Jackson, Jr., Elijah Ratliff, Lewis Jackson Jr., Tommy Sovibact and Joseph Jackson.

Adres J. Viers
(Tazewell, VA)

  Adres J. Viers, 82, of Tazewell,   formerly of Buchanan County, died Sunday, December 3, 2006 at Tazewell Community Hospital following an extended illness.
  Born in Dickenson County, he was the son of the late Burl and Blanche Combo Viers. He had been a resident of Buchanan County most of his life prior to moving to Tazewell. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was of the Old Regular Primitive Baptist Church faith. He was a disabled coal miner.
  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elberta Charles Viers, August 1, 1996; three sisters, Belle Owens, Uva Colley and Ruby Woods; and three brothers, David Viers, Lawrence Viers and Albert Viers.
  He is survived by three daughters, Annastine Viers and Martha Jean Viers, both of North Tazewell and Lovella Meadows of Painesville, OH; two sons, Darrell Y. and wife, Pauline Viers and Kent W. and wife, Betty Viers, all of North Tazewell; two sisters, Vivian and husband, Buford Blankenship, of Vansant and Odra Childress of North Tazewell; eight grandchildren and 20-great-grandchildren.
  Services were held Wednesday, December 6 at Big Prater Primitive Baptist Church with Elders of the Washington Association, Elders of Three Forks Association and Elders of Elkhorn Association officiating. Burial followed in the Childress and Viers Cemetery on Slope Street, North Tazewell.
  Active pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons.

Herman Rife
(Pounding Mill, VA)

  Herman Rife, 73, of Pounding Mill, died Monday, November 27, 2006 in a Richlands hospital.
  Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Earl and Laura Kelly Rife. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a retired coal miner for Island Creek Coal Company and was of the Baptist faith.
  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Jennifer E. Osborne; two sons, Jeffery W. Rife and Leon Lyle Rife; two brothers and one sister.
  He is survived by three sons, Angelo Herman Rife and Dexter Lee Rife, both of Pounding Mill and Thomas Earl Rife of Kentucky; three sisters, Leanne Mullins of Spruce Pine, Mazie Mullins of Compton Mountain and Mollie Whitt of Wardell; two brothers, Ellis Rife of Clay City, KY and Dennis Burl Rife of Abingdon; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
  Services were held Friday, December 1 at Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel, Keen Mountain, with the Revs. Troy Lester, Jack Ward, Andy Maynard and Bill Ward officiating. Burial followed in the Kelly Cemetery at Compton Mountain. Military graveside rites were conducted by John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion.
  Pallbearers were Robert Viers, Randy Rife, Joey Mullins, Scotty Rife, Rick Varney and Larry Stacy.
  Buchanan Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.


Curtis Neal Duty
(Litwar, WV)

  Curtis Neal Duty, 77, of Litwar, WV, died Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at Welch Community Hospital.
  Born in Virginia, he was the son of the late Lem and Ocie Duty. He was a woodcrafter.
  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers.
  He is survived by three daughters, Lucille Zambo and husband, Ronald, of Cleveland, Julie Lenz and husband, David, of Brooklyn Park, MN and Belinda Bryant and husband, Hartzel, of North Welch, WV; four sons, Harvey (Eddie) Duty and wife, Athena, of Whitewood; Robert Duty and wife, Earnestine of Paynesville, WV, William (Bill) Duty and wife, Cathy, of Union, WV and Michael (Skip) Duty, and wife, Linda, of Litchfield, OH; 20 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
  Services were held Sunday, November 26 at Bradshaw Mountain Community Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Blevins officiating. Burial followed in the Sexton family cemetery on Rock Ridge at Paynesville.
  Pallbearers were family and friends.

Cledith Eugene Deel
(Clinchco, VA)

  Cledith Eugene Deel, 81, of Clinchco, died Sunday, December 3, 2006 at a Roanoke hospital.
  Born in Dickenson County, he was a son of the late James Howard and Ida Raines Deel. He was a retired machinest from General Motors and was of the Baptist faith.
  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charlie, Buster, William and Johnny Deel, and a sister, Fannie Deel.
  He is survived by his wife, Nancy Deel; two daughters, Carolyn Dugue and Cathy Gibson, both of Michigan; three step-sons, Clinton Edwards of Richlands, Mike Edwards of Cleveland and Joey Edwards of Lebanon; one step-daughter, Glenna Spencer of St. Augustine, FL; three brothers, Jerry Deel of Haysi, Harold Buford Deel of Royal Oak and James Toy Deel of Jefferson City, MO; five grandchildren, several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
  Services were held Wednesday, December 6 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Don Stacy, Roger Fuller, Bobby Rose and Bruce Edwards officiating. Burial followed in the A.F. Deel Cemetery at Haysi.
  Pallbearers were nephews and step-sons.

Glenn Henry Allen
(Princeton, WV)

  Glenn Henry Allen, 67, of Princeton, WV,  died Monday, December 4, 2006 at his home. 
  Born in Jewell Ridge, he was the son of the late James Henry Allen and Lessie Echo Keen Allen. He served his country in the Army 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, NC, was a 1958 graduate of Garden High School, was a fisherman, hunter and golfer, a member of Moose Lodge #1521 in Princeton and was employed by Wal-Mart in Pearisburg.
  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Stanley E. Allen of Doyline, LA, James Hobert Allen of Beaverdam and Harold Allen of Kingsport, TN; one sister, Dorothy Williams of Mansfield, OH; one grandson, Trenton Cooper Ferrell of Columbus, OH; one brother-in-law, Timothy H. Kroutil of Westerville, OH; one niece and one nephew.
  He is survived by his wife, Barbara Sue Buskill Allen; two daughters, Felecia C. Allen of Zanesville, OH and Bessie Bethene Allen of Columbus, OH; three sons, Stephen E. Allen and wife, Sheri of Mansfield, OH, James R. Allen and wife, Jodi, of St. Joseph, MI and Glenn Kelly Allen and wife, Mary of Marysville, OH; two brothers, Jimmy C. Allen and wife, Carol of Bardstown, KY and Curtis D. Allen and wife, Linda of Beaverdam; two sisters, Margaret Dixon and husband, Harry of Ohio City, OH and Mary Isbell and husband, Charlie, also of Ohio City; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Allen of Beaverdam, Evelyn Allen of Bosier City and Linda Kroutil of Westerville, OH; two brothers-in-law, Charles C. Buskill of Shelby, NC and Robert F. Buskill of North Augusta, SC; three grandsons, six granddaughters, one step-granddaughter; 15 nieces, 17 nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
  Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 9, at 1:30 p.m.  at Hill Funeral Home in Westerville with the Rev. Larry Dyer of Princeton officiating.
  The body has been cremated.
