Twin
Valley
took
two
games
out
of
three
at
Midland
Trail
High
School
in
Hico,
West
Virginia
last
week.
The
Panthers
held
off
Meadow
Bridge,
64-51,
on
Thursday.
In
the
Midland
Trail
Blizzard
Tournament
over
the
weekend,
Twin
Valley
lost
to
Gilmer
County,
48-40,
on
Friday
and
took
third
place
in
the
event
with
a
74-25
rout
of
Montcalm
on
Saturday.
Three
Panthers
posted
double-doubles
in
Thursday’s
win.
Freshman
Josh
Smith
scored
14
points
and
grabbed
15
rebounds,
including
11
on
the
offensive
glass,
while
Matthew
Baldwin
and
Hunter
Simpson
each
added
16
points
and
10
boards
for
Twin
Valley
(4-2).
Twin
Valley
led
from
start
to
finish.
The
Panthers
extended
a
32-25
lead
to
51-36
and
led
by
as
much
as
20
points
in
the
third
quarter.
Chris
Rowe
(17)
and
Billy
Trump
(15)
combined
for
32
points
for
Meadow
Bridge.
The
Panthers
led
most
of
the
way
Friday
before
Gilmer
County
rallied
to
take
the
lead
late
in
the
contest.
Gilmer
County
took
the
lead,
42-39,
on
a
three-pointer
with
3:28
remaining
and
held
Twin
Valley
to
one
point
the
rest
of
the
way.
"We
pretty
much
led
the
whole
ballgame,”
Twin
Valley
coach
Brian
Moore
said.
“When
Matthew
(Baldwin)
got
in
a
little
bit
of
foul
trouble
they
made
a
little
run.
“Their
zone
hurt
us
and
we
went
cold
at
the
end.
They’re
well-coached.
They’re
a
pretty
decent
team
for
the
most
part.”

The
Grundy
Middle
School
wrestling
team
traveled
to
Virginia
Beach
recently
to
compete
in
the
VAC
National
Holiday
Duals,
held
December
15-17.
Teams
competing
in
the
three-day
tournament
were
divided
into
two
groups:
Rudolph
and
Comet
Pools.
The
Rudolph
Pool
consisted
of
teams
Virginia,
Thunder,
N.J.
Gamblers,
Nor’easter,
National
Extreme,
Team
KOLAT,
Michigan
Intensity,
Grundy
Middle
School,
National
Renegades
and
SJWA.
The
Comet
Pool
consisted
of
Team
Jordan,
OH,
Michigan
Attack,
SJWA
RAW,
Pennsylvania
Tigers,
VAC
Elite,
North
Carolina,
CAWL
MD/VA,
NJ
X-Men
and
All
American/Richmond,
VA.
Most
teams
were
made
up of
some
of
the
best
middle
school
wrestlers
in
the
nation,
with
Grundy
being
the
only
(pure)
school
team
competing.
The
young
Wave
team
placed
seventh
in
the
Rudolph
Pool
and
15th
overall
in
the
three-day
event
with
three
Wave
grapplers
bring
home
individual
medals.
Tanner
McClanahan
brought
home
the
only
gold
medal
among
the
Wave
competitors,
winning
all
of
his
matches
at
170
pounds
and
finishing
with
a
perfect
6-0
record.
McClanahan
was
chosen
‘Outstanding
Wrestler’
for
the
Grundy
squad.
Also
bringing
home
medals
were
Daniel
Lowe,
finishing
in
second
place
at
190
pounds
with
a 7-1
record
and
Jeremy
Hurley,
finishing
in
third
place
at
112
pounds
with
a 6-2
overall
record.
