Rebels
Win Two
of Three
Games in
Coalfield
Clash |
|
|
|
It
was déjà vu all over again for
Hurley, but in a
good way.
The Rebels got stuck
playing Holston on back-to-back
nights in the Coalfield Clash at
Twin Valley, but the
Rebels won both contests in the
holiday tournament.
Hurley defeated the
Cavaliers, 64-35, Friday evening,
and scored the same number of
points in a 64-46
victory over Holston on Saturday.
The Rebels opened
tournament play with a 70-54 loss
to
Graham Wednesday evening at TVHS.
Key second-half runs
lifted Hurley to both its wins
over Holston. The Rebels pulled
away with a 19-5 run
on Saturday and used a 21-3 spurt
to take command in
Friday’s contest.
Shane Shelton and Shane
Slone hit 3-pointers during
the key run, as the Rebels
extended a 43-34 lead to a
62-39 advantage midway through the
fourth quarter.
Eric May scored 10 of his
game-high 16 points in the
first half for Hurley (6-4). Jay
Tester added 12
points and Shelton finished with
nine points for the
Rebels.
No one scored in double
figures in either game for the
Cavaliers. Eric Mefford led
Holston Saturday with nine
points.
