Ammar Cecil
(Grundy)
Adele Ammar Cecil, 78, of Grundy, died Thursday, January 18,
2007, at the home of her daughter, Diane Holland, following
an extended illness.
Born
in Williamson, WV, she was the daughter of the late K.A. Sr.
and Lydia Radwan Ammar.
She
had been a resident of Buchanan County for the past 58
years. She was active in forming the Jr. Woman's Club of
Grundy and served as the club's first president. She also
served as District Women's Advisor for the National
Foundation of Infantile Paralysis before the Salk vaccine
discovery and was a district chairman for the Virginia
Federation of Woman's Clubs as Safety Chairman. She was a
member of the Governor's Highway Safety Commission, served
as president of the P.T.A. and was a member of Florence Ann
Chapter of O.E.S. She was a member of Buchanan First
Presbyterian Church since February 3, 1956. She performed
bookkeeping services for her husband's businesses including
P&T Department Stores and later, Gene's Department Store
for many years and managed The Style Center, formerly
located in downtown Grundy. She was a graduate of Williamson
High School in Williamson, WV and attended the University of
Kentucky in Lexington, KY, where she was a member of Delta
Zeta Sorority. She was also a member of the University of
Kentucky Fellows Association and was in "Who's Who of
American Business Women."
In
addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband of 56 years, Eugene M. Cecil, February 20, 2006; two
sisters, Rosella Michael and Kalia Radwan; and one brother,
F.K. Ammar, Sr.
She
is survived by one daughter, Diana, and husband, Louis
Holland of Grundy; one son, David, and wife, Debbie Cecil,
of Grundy; two brothers, K.A. Ammar, Jr. and Richard F.
Ammar, both of Bluefield, WV; five grandchildren, David E.
Cecil, II, Gary Holland, Rebecca Cecil, Reagan Cecil and
Sandra D. Holland.
Services
were held Saturday, January 20 at Buchanan First
Presbyterian Church in Grundy with the Rev. Jeff Porter
officiating. Entombment followed in Mountain Rest Mausoleum,
Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock.
Active
pallbearers were Jason Plymal, Derrick Stacy, Bobby Reece,
the Hon. Patrick Johnson, James Street, Terry Trivett, Larry
Shrader and Tom Scott.

Mitchell
(Council)
Ruby
Mae Baldwin Mitchell, 86, of the Grissom Creek section of
Council, died Monday, January 22, 2007 at her home.
Born
in Drill, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Catherine
Ball Baldwin. She had spent her entire life in the Drill and
Council areas. She was a devout Christian and a charter
member of Drill Chapel Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Thomas Mitchell, December 8, 1991; one son, Harold
Lee Mitchell; two daughters, Donna Sue Mitchell and Barbara
Israel; two sons-in-law, Carlis Wampler and Don Breeding;
one great-granddaughter, Krista Leigh Snead; three brothers,
Winford Baldwin, Clarence Baldwin, and Ezra Baldwin; and one
sister, Estelle Baldwin Horn.
Survivors include one son, Dawyer Mitchell and wife,
Pam, of Honaker; three daughters, Philis Wilson and husband,
Dan, of Lebanon, Mildred Baldwin and husband, Larry, and
Debbie Barton and husband, the Rev. Avery Barton, all of
Council; one son-in-law, Larry Israel, of Honaker; one
daughter-in-law, Joyce Mitchell of Council; four sisters,
Hazel Musick of Lebanon, Bertie Lester of Council, Ethel Lee
of Galion, OH, and Delphia Hubbard of Shelby, OH; 15
grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and two
great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held today (Thursday) in Honaker
with Rev. Don Sullivan and the Rev. Ralph Dye officiating.
Interment followed in the Baldwin Cemetery on Drill.
Pallbearers were Larry Israel, Chris Johnson, Dennis
Clevinger, Terry Mitchell, Ben Mitchell, Josh Wells, Michael
Davis, and Koty Davis.
Honorary pallbearers were Terry Snead, Dustin
Clevinger, David Boyd, Tommy Mitchell, Dylan Davis, Jordan
Wampler, Dalton Wampler, Peyton Johnson, and men of Drill

Lester
(Hurley)
Roscoe Lester, 81, of Hurley, died Wednesday, January 17,
2007 at Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy following an
extended illness.
Born
in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late James and
Mary Meadows Lester. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan
County and was of the Pentecostal faith. He was a disabled
coal miner.
In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
wife, Mary Lester Lester, February 20, 2002; one son, Danny
Ray Lester; and four daughters, Phyllis, Lois, Sharon and
Bubbles Lester.
He
is survived by six daughters, Florence, and husband, Billy
Joe Whitt, of Hurley, Linda, and husband, Lanny Gillman and
Lillian, and husband, Connie Cline, all of Akron, IN, Donna
and husband, Bill Gillman of Mentone, IN, Rita Charles of
Warsaw, IN and Sherry Jackson of Feds Creek, KY; one
son-in-law, Walter Charles of Warsaw; two sisters, Rena
McCoy of Hurley and Helen Matney of Mudford, WV; one
brother, Manuel Lester of Hurley; 21 grandchildren, 43
great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and one
great-great-great-grandchild.
Services
were held Sunday, January 21 at 1 p.m. at Elkins Branch
Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Ronald Lester officiating.
Burial followed in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock.

Lee Justus
(Hurley)
Hursel Lee Justus, 71, of Hurley, died Wednesday, January
17, 2007 at his home.
Born
in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Quarry and
Stella Lester Justus. He was a retired coal miner and a
member of the Pine Grove Old Regular Baptist Church.
In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one
son, James Allen Justus.
He
is survived by his wife, Emma Jean Justus of Hurley; one
brother, James Sandige of Gulf Port, MS; and one aunt, Ruby
Matney of Hurley.
Services
were held Saturday, January 20 at Pine Grove Old Regular
Baptist Church at Hurley with Elders Danny Hurley, Julius
Lester, Jr., George Baker, Danny McCoy, Dave Gibson, Kermit
Lester and Delbert Justus officiating. Burial followed in
the Lester Cemetery at Hurley.

Ralph Edward King
(Wolford)
Ralph Edward King, 87, of the Wolford section of Hurley,
died Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at Buchanan General Hospital
in Grundy following an extended illness.
Born
in Blackey, he was the son of the late Andrew and Mae Davis
King. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and a
member of Little Prater Church of Christ. He served in the
United States Army during World War II, was a member of John
Ratliff Post #164 of the American Legion and Childs Gentry
Post #7360 of the V.F.W. He was a livestock dealer.
In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
wife, Mary Ruth McClanahan King, April 22, 1999; one infant
son, Jeffery Edward King; three sisters, Lula Davis, Violet
Russ and Virginia King; and three brothers, Carl, Frank and
Buster King.
He
is survived by four daughters, Brenda "Bunny"
Davis, Sharon Stacy, Kathy King and Regina Pauline King, all
of Hurley; three sisters, Betty and husband, Andrew Hurley
and Dolly Grace (Sally) and husband, Pal Barbour, all of
Hurley and Shirley and husband, Warren Charles of Abingdon;
three brothers, Paul and wife, Marie King, Powell King and
Jessie King, all of Hurley; five grandchildren, Brian Davis,
Brandon Davis, Bradley and wife, Teresa Davis, Stephanie and
husband, Anthony Stiltner and Lisa and husband, Robert
Blankenship; and five great-grandchildren.
Services
were held Friday, January 19 at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel
with Evg. Michael Trent officiating. Burial followed in
Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock. Full military rites
were held at the cemetery by members of John Ratliff Post
No. 164 of the American Legion.

Howard
Weddle Stacy, 62, of Jolo, WV, died Wednesday, January 17,
2007 at Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy.
Born
in McDowell County, WV, he was the son of the late Lee Otis
Stacy and Berthia Riffe Stacy. He was a retired coal miner,
a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Bradshaw American
Legion Post and a member of the Community Church of the
Living God of Three Forks.He was an avid outdoorsman.
In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one
granddaughter, Grace Aldeane Stacy.
He
is survived by his wife of 41 years, Elsie Lou Cooper Stacy;
two daughters, Linda Gross and husband Jeff , and Virginia
Davis and husband, Dale. all of High Point, NC; three sons,
Ellis Lee Stacy and wife, Melinda, of Beckley, WV, Howard
Weddle Stacy, Jr. and wife, Tina, of Thomasville, NC, and
Brian Keith Stacy of Jolo, WV; four sisters, Dorothy Traylor
of Kingsport, TN, Josephine Taylor of High Point, NC, Gay
Rogers of Ohio, and Lorine Stacy of High Point; seven
brothers, Terry Stacy, Coy Stacy and Otis Stacy, all of Jolo,
Darrell Stacy of Tennessee, Woody Stacy of Moresville, NC,
Curtis Stacy and Denny Stacy, both of Trinity, NC; and five
grandchildren.

will be held Saturday, January 20, at the Jolo Family
Worship Center in Jolo with the Rev. Freddie Dobbs, the Rev.
Butch White and the Rev. Charles Rowe officiating. Burial
followed in the Cooper Cemetery at State Line Ridge #1 at
Paynesville, WV. Full military rites were held at the
cemetery by the Bradshaw American Legion Post # 175 and the
VFW post # 1144 of Iaeger, WV.

John Letcher Fuller, 78, of Haysi, died Monday, January
22, 2007 at his home.
Born
in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late John and
Nellie Raines Fuller. He was a miner and was of the Old
Regular Baptist faith.
In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four
sisters, Agnes Yates, Lois Belcher, Nancy Deel and Oakie
Fuller; and four brothers, Lonza, Tom, Henry and David
Fuller.
He
is survived by four sisters, Gladys Fuller, Dixie (Carl)
Deel, Gay (Ray) Blankenship and Pauline (Levi) Sutherland,
all of Haysi; one brother, Johnny (Lisa) Fuller of Haysi;
several nieces and nephews.
Services
were held Wednesday, January 24 at Russell Prater Old
Regular Baptist Church with Elders Roger Coleman, Denny
Deel, Mark Justice and Ralph Mullins officiating. Burial
followed in the Fuller Cemetery at Haysi.

Robert "Bob" Clifton

Robert "Bob" Clifton, 62, of Albany, OH, died
unexpectedly Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at his home.
Born
in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Walter and
Alice Ratliff Clifton. He was an Army veteran of the
Vietnam War, was a farmer and a retired maintenance
repairman for Ohio University. He was a member and past
master of Albany Masonic Lodge 723 F&AM, a member of
the Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus and York Rite Masonic
Bodies of Athens, and a member of Albany Baptist Church.
In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a
daughter, Bobbie Jean Clifton.
He
is survived by his wife, Billie Jean Hunter Clifton; and
sisters, Phyllis (Basil) Fields of Athens and Joann (Athur)
Whitt of Pilgrim Knob.
Services
were held on Saturday at Albany Baptist Church with the
Rev. Troy Lester officiating. Burial followed in Bar
Circle C Ranch Cemetery, with military graveside rites
conducted by Albany VFW Post 93, KT Crossen American
Legion Post 21 and Athens VFW Post 3477.
